Monster Truck Nationals in State College, PA were awesome!

Monday, April 4, 2011

My 7 yr old was looking forward to it. My 8 yr old just said he was interested in the pit party before hand. I'm talking about the Monster Truck Nationals in State College, PA last night.

My boys' father took them to the show.  It sounds like they had a great time.  Here's just a few pics from the show last night:

At the Pit Party

During the show

Both of the boys said there were dirt bike riders before the monster trucks.  They said the dirt bike riders were actually their favorite part.  They did ask me today though if they could wear their autographed shirts to school. I was a little leary but told them to go ahead.  They were so excited to show off their autographed tees.

My 8 year old said his favorite truck was "Chalkboard Chuck" that was red, yellow, and black.  He said "Chalkboard Chuck" is the one in the last picture shown above.  My 7 year old said his favorite was "Big Foot".  He asked, "Do you know why Big Foot is my favorite mom?"  I said no.  He said "Because it's a Ford" lol.  Well any reasons a good reason I guess.

If you get a chance to take your kids to the Monster Truck Nationals, do it.  It's something fun that's not your everyday activity.  There's still a chance to catch the Monster Truck Nationals.

Fathers, Sons, and Monster Trucks

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

As much as I love to spend time with my boys I know that it's important for my boys to have father/son time. Boys need that time to just be boys.  I saw that the E3 Spark Plugs Monster Truck Nationals was coming to our area.  That had father and son time written all over it.   Think about it: boys and boys-at-heart, mud, big trucks, loud engines, and destruction.  Am I right?

My oldest 2 boys are from my first marriage.  I know that they enjoy their time with me but they don't get to spend as much time with the dad as they'd like to.  I asked their dad if he'd like to take them to the Monster Truck Nationals show on Apr. 2.  He said he could.  Now my 7 yr old is excited about it.  My 8 yr old wasn't so sure until I old him there was also a Pit Party before the show actually starts.  He says "Count me in!"

I think the Monster Truck National will be an event that they'll remember for a long time.  It'll be one of those "Hey dad, remember that one time we saw that Monster Truck show and..."

I'll find out for sure though. They'll be heading to the show April 2nd in State College, PA.  Look for my review after the event.

And now a light-hearted: My Top 5 reasons for a father/son Monster Truck Nationals night out:

1.  Because it'll get your kids and hubby away from the cartoons on TV.

2.  Because they can feel free to make whatever bodily noises they need to, no one will hear them anyway.

3.  Because they'll feel free to enjoy themselves a little more.  Mom's not there to say:
"oh my someone's gonna get hurt"
"son stop screaming, use your inside voice"
"Dear! Don't encourage that!"
"No that soda and nachos isn't healthy, Why don't you get some water and carrots sticks?"
"Do those trucks really need to be that loud?"
I could really keep going here.

4.  Because boys/guys love machines, loud noise, and destruction, at least if they're here they're not destroying your freshly cleaned house for a while.

5.  Maybe the most important reason: father and son will both enjoy it and it'll be ok if they act their age.

My boys will be going to this. They don't know it yet. It's going to be a surprise. Their father is going to take them for a boys night out. This is going to be such a fun night out for something different to do. There are other locations as well so if this venue doesn't suit you, see if there's one closer to you.
