Dollywink Volume Mascara & K-Palette Volume Mascara Review

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Hello!! Even though I said I would update more, I ended up failing. Don't you ever feel that summer vacation sometimes feel even busier then school? I'm being forced to find a job and it's hard~until I do find one, I'm also being forced to attend lessons at my parent's school =__=". I've also been helping my cousin watch her dogs and I think I developed some allergies T^T.

Anyways, I've been trying to do the Dollywink Volume Mascara for a while now. I've actually already took photos in May of me layering both Long and Volume Mascara together. That was when I realized that I might have layered it in the wrong order so I took new photos. Today I will be posting photos of layering Volume Mascara first and Long Mascara second, as well as the opposite and you can decide which one works better. I will also be reviewing the K-Palette Volume Mascara which I tried long time ago in Taiwan and I couldn't find it in the US for a while. When I finally got my hands on it, I didn't love it as much...then the other day I saw it on Prettyandcute.com and decided to give it another go. Now on to the Reviews!!!

Warning: Expect TONS of photos of an eye.

DOLLYWINK VOLUME MASCARA

If you have read my blog, you might have seen my previous review on Dollywink Long Mascara. It worked quite well for me and I was determined to try the Volume Mascara as well. I had pretty high hopes for this mascara since the first one did quite well but I must say, there are probably better volume mascaras out there.

This mascara does create volume but too many layers,  it does clump quite badly so carefully use. I'm more interested in mascaras that lengthen since I have super short lashes! The good thing about this mascara is that it can be layered with the long mascara to create the maximum effect. Also just like the Long mascara, it stays very well but is easily taken off with warm water, so no makeup remover is needed.

I've read in helloemy's blog before that the best effect is done by first putting on the Long mascara and then immediately layering the Volume mascara. I kind of forgot so I did the opposite and took photos, but I eventually tried the correct way? I guess it really depends which order works best for you!  Also it works best when you layer while the the mascara is still wet otherwise it will clump easily.

Below are pictures of the volume mascara worn alone, layered under the long mascara, and layered on top of the long mascara.

WORN ALONE

the brush is thick with lots of little bristles

As you can see, it does add volume

I didn't apply while it was wet @_@ so effect not as nice

K-PALETTE VOLUME MASCARA

This was probably one of my favorite mascaras that I've discovered. The first time I saw this was in Taiwan around 4 years ago and it was pricey but I had this feeling that I should try it. I fell in love with this mascara after the first time I tried it and I loved how it looked. After returning to the US, I couldn't find it anywhere! Even after searching like crazy online, it still wasn't available. I was so sad and had to go back to the typical American mascaras. Then I found it again one day in stores and I bought it immediately!! For some reason I didn't love it as much as I did back then so I never bought it again after it dried out.

It wasn't until recently I saw it on prettyandcute.com and decided I wanted to give it another try. After comparing this with the Dollywink Volume Mascara, I really do like this one a bit better. This one does give some volume but it also lengthens which is what I really look for in mascaras. Even though mascaras say volume, I really still want some lengthening effect as well. This mascara does it for me ^o^!!

It also keeps lashes curled quite well and if you wear false eyelashes, this mascara will give it a lift. The only things I'm unsatisfied about it is the fact that it clumps lashes together if you apply too much. It's not that bad since I've met worst but just make sure to be careful when applying. Also make sure to close it tight since this mascara drys easily if your not careful T^T..happened to me~~I wish it didn't dry as easily since while the mascara is wet, the consistency is wonderful!

Now on to the photographs:

the brush very thick =D

the first time I tried it, so different then other pictures..as you can see it does lengthen~

Sorry, this was after it dried out a bit so it clumped a bit

It does add some volume but I'm not sure if its as much as the Dollywink one. It does lengthen and curl well though.

That's all for today~It is up to you guys which one gives a better effect. Because I feel bad about not posting for so long, I will be posting several reviews this week. It's all my photos gathered together =D so look forward! I also really want to do some more contact, foundation, and bb cream reviews but long story made short, I'm breaking out like crazy T^T so my skin isn't in good condition and also I got allergies and my eyes are both itchy and red because I wore defective lens @_@~~I managed to get pictures of those lens though so I'll go into more detail when I post the lens review. DO NOT WEAR DEFECTIVE LENS LIKE ME T^T!! It kills~~~~~~

Oh yeah~I got more items from pretty&cute~~^o^ happy about it! Here's a photo of the items with my Rilakkuma<3 They even gave a free gift since it was their anniversary event a while back:

Thanks for reading!! I'm really happy that I actually have people reading this blog =D! When people read even if it's not a lot, I feel that whatever I'm writing is worth it. I hope my reviews will be helpful♥ Thanks again ^o^!!

Review- Maybelline One by One Mascara

Friday, June 3, 2011

Waterproof is blue and The regular is Red Wand

Why You'll Love It

Finally, bold volume without any of the bulk.
• Patented Lash Catcher  brush has 3 bristles per lash to make every lash count
• Catches, coats and de-clumps each lash to make them all fatter and flirtier
• Instant clump-free volume
• Contact lens safe and ophthalmologist-tested
• Washable, also available in Waterproof formula

I sorta have mixed feelings about this mascara, I really like mascara that looks 'clumpy full' while your still getting the volume. But this is great for people who don't like that look.
The brush is very different then others that I have tried. It's a full plastic bristle wand. It works great to get every single lash.
Below is before and after

Gotta love when they use false lashes to sell a mascara.

I feel like it gave great volume but I don't know they look so bare. The other thing I like about is it's my only waterproof mascara and the only reason why I bought it was to have natural waterproof lashes for my up coming wedding.

My Rating Scale 1-5 1-the worst 5- the best
Quality- 4
Packaging- 4.5
How long does it stay on- Until you wash it off, I didn't notice any flaking during the day
Would I buy it again- I don't think I would just cause I like the 'clumpy' look
Price- Around $5
Overall- It is a great mascara, it does get every lash which is great.
Where to buy- Drugstore, Department Store

Review: L'Oreal Double Extend Eye Illuminator Mascara

Sunday, April 10, 2011

L'Oreal Double Extend Eye Illuminator Mascara in Black Quartz (for brown eyes)

Price: MSRP $10.95

Claims: "Black mascara infused with a hint of color adds volume and length to lashes while intensifying eyes. The illuminating top coat infused with light-reflecting pearls highlights your eye color with our exclusive sphere tip brush. Clump-free & Flake and Smudge Resistant."

Review: I received this product to review for free through the social marketing site BzzAgent.

This mascara has two ends: a black mascara for volumizing and lengthening, and a top coat to highlight your eyes. The basic black mascara is nice, goes on easily with no clumping or mess. It lengthens but doesn't provide much volume, which is fine because I have a lot of lashes already.

Black mascara, one coat on top lashes only:

The top coat says it has "light-reflecting pearls" but it's really just copper-colored glitter. Not even finely ground subtle illuminating glitter, but big ol' chunks of the stuff. One application of the top coat leaves a large number of the glitter particles, which feel is a little over-the-top for daily use. I ended up using an eyelash comb to get some of the glitter off. Throughout the day, the glitter particles would catch light and I'd see weird flashes out of the corner of my eyes.

Top coat brush:

Mascara (top lashes only) with illuminating top coat (top and bottom lashes):

I don't feel like the glitter is subtle or illuminating to my eye color at all - it's just very obviously glitter. There's nothing wrong with glitter, but based on the claims, you'd think it would be more fine and subtle, not over-the-top sparkly. I think it would make a fun look for wearing out at night, but not something I'd wear very often, especially not to work.

All in all, it's a good overall mascara, and I like the idea of two looks in one. The mascara seems to hold the curl throughout the day, but I was disappointed to see a few black flakes on my cheeks at the end of the day the first time I used it. Since wearing it without the top coat, it hasn't flaked, so that might be the problem. I'll continue using it, but I don't see myself paying nearly $11 for this product when I have found other (cheaper) mascaras that I like better.

Overall rating: B-

Would purchase again? Probably not

Dollywink Long Mascara Review + Dollywink Eyelash No.5 Real Nude

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Hello~~~so I've bought a couple of things from pretty&cute.com and that includes the Dollywink Long Mascara and eyelashes No.5 Real Nude!!

I wish I was able to buy both the Long and Volume Mascara but I'm pretty close to being broke T^T!!

I've heard by layering both of them together, there will be beautiful results♥ Once I get my hands on the Volume mascara =] I promise I'll do another review using both of them together~~BUT...for now I only have the Dollywink Long Mascara, and that is the one I'll be reviewing today♥

First off, my lashes are pretty short because I cut them off in 10th grade =_=...I thought they would grow back longer but..NEVER HAPPENED!!!

No Mascara Lashes:

As you can see, I have no lashes >.>"

Wearing Dollywink Long Mascara (under view & front view):

I'm sure you can see the difference between no mascara & mascara~

My take on the Long Mascara is that it does lengthen as seen in photograph but of course it can't compare to wearing fake eyelashes. This mascara also doesn't budge without warm water. My normal waterproof makeup remover actually has a hard time removing this, while water easily rinses it off. The mascara also comes off in pieces just like Imju Fiberwig mascara. Another good thing is that this mascara doesn't really clump unless you layer it too much while it has already dried. I think if I were to use this with the volume mascara, maybe the results would have been better?

I wouldn't say this is my favorite mascara in the world, but the packaging is really adorable and it works pretty well for bottom lashes. I think it is very similar to the Fiberwig mascara but I haven't used that one for a long time so I'm not sure which one is better. The downside is that this mascara is a bit pricey but it is around the same price as the Fiberwig. I think I might go back to try the Fiberwig again, just to see which one is better~~

Moving on to the Dollywink Lashes~~

I've always wanted to try bottom lashes because it makes the eyes appear larger and these looked quite natural so I thought why not??

Sadly, when I wear these, I don't get why it looks so unnatural on me =[ They only look acceptable in photographs but in real life, I look FREAKY. It looks too harsh for an everyday look. I might try these again some time and maybe update this review, but for now I would probably only wear these if I'm looking for a dramatic makeup look or if I'm doing a photo shoot~~I wouldn't say that I don't recommend these because I have read such good reviews about these lashes from other people so I'm guessing it works differently for each person ^_^

Here is how it looked on me:

This was my first time wearing them so it looks a bit messy >_<~~

More reviews to come =D~~

While I Love My Make Up...

Thursday, March 3, 2011

I love my dogs more...

Like the saddo I am, last night I ended up watching Legally Blonde 2 (absolute disaster of a film) on the television. This morning while doing my college essay I began thinking about today's post. Animal Testing. Anyone will tell you that I'm against wearing fur, but strangely animal testing in regards to cosmetic companies was never something I paid attention to. I would never buy a make up product knowing it was tested on animals - BUT - being the slight makeup snob that I am, I was under the insane and inaccurate belief that because the products I buy are more high end, no animal testing would be carried out to produce them.

Fail, Julie.

After doing a small amount of research on the subject (my poor college essay!), and watching some really disturbing videos about the treatment of animals being tested on, I thought I'd share with you some of the information I found out. There's little point in debating the pros and cons of it, as in my eyes its just wrong. Pixiwoo have a list of companies that don't test on animals in full here, and those that are safe include MAC, Nars, MUFE, Eyeko, Beauté, Laura Mercier, Urban Decay, Sleek, Estee Lauder and Illamasqua. Phew! Thank God, if they tested on animals most of my make up would be in the bin.

Those that are ambiguous in their animal cruelty policy include L'Oreal, D&G, Max Factor, Rimmel and Benefit. As much as I loved my Benefit foundation and was ready to repurchase, I definitely won't be doing so now. As for the others they've been removed from my make up drawer. For a list of all the companies that DO NOT test on animals click here. While I love make up and the little collection I have going on, not at the cost of an animals life. This time the price of beauty is too high.

What do you think about animal testing? Do you knowingly use products tested on animals?
