ELF deal: $10 voucher for $25

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

I got an email a couple days ago about Beauty Story joining with Total Beauty to feature various deals.  I had no idea I was even on an email list with Beauty Story, haha.  Well, today I received an email in my junk mail about today's "daily deal" on Total Beauy- for $10 you can get a voucher for $25 worth of ELF products.  I've been waiting for the longest time to make another ELF purchase, and this seemed like the best deal I could get!  It doesn't include tax or shipping (which it explains in the "fine print" on the Total Beauty page, that I didn't see until after I purchased!), but it's still a pretty good deal.

According to the website, this deal lasts for 2 more days if you're interested! :)
(Edit: It looks like this is only available to US and Canada- sorry everyone!)

(Note:  I'm not affiliated whatsoever with ELF cosmetics.)

Stylefixx NYC Shopping Event May 26th report

I was invited to the Stylefixx NYC event by a friend - I'd never heard of it before, but it sounded like fun. Well, all I heard was "free bag of stuff" and that's all it took to convince me. I didn't know much about what the event entailed, but it was only $15, and I'm always looking for new, interesting things to do.

It reminded me of a craft fair, except instead of crafts, there were clothes and jewelry (think Etsy sellers). Most of the clothes sellers claimed they were selling expensive designer items for a low price (big signs saying "$120 only $30!"... you get the idea) but none of it was really nice or even expensive-looking! Lots of cheap polyester club wear and imported clothes you can find in Chinatown. Some of the handmade jewelry was quiet lovely, but I didn't buy anything.

Included in the entrance fee was 4 drinks. I think the idea was to get everyone drunk so they would buy more stuff. They had 3 bars in the venue, 2 of which had only beer and no lines, and 1 which had delicious rum-based cocktails and EVERYONE in line.

It was an awful mob and we ended up standing in line for a good 20 minutes - twice! But the drinks were very good - the two they offered were mojitos made with cranberry juice, and pina coladas made with coconut water.

Along with the sellers, they had a couple of booths doing demonstrations of their products. One makeup brand was offering makeovers at the cost of $20 or $30. The hair brand Jose Eber was letting you try out their curling and straight irons - with a catch. They did my hair in lovely ringlets, but on one side only!

They only did your full head if you bought the product, which they claimed was discounted from the original price of $300 for the low-low price of only $125! Umm... Well... I got nearly the same hair iron at TJMaxx (complete with the original $300 price tag, which I assume is a sham, because where have you ever seen them for that much??) on clearance for $20. And what do you know, a quick look on Amazon when I got home told me that yes, the curling irons only sell for $40~50 new!

Let that be a lesson - just because they SAY it's a bargain, doesn't mean it is! I'm sure hundreds of people left that night spending way more money than they would have if they just did a quick search online.

It is a really nice curling iron though, it's one of those new clipless ones that doesn't leave dents in your hair and is really easy to use, even for someone completely inept at hair styling like I am (it includes a heat-proof glove so you don't burn yourself!). I just might buy it with Amazon gift cards from Swagbucks, since I have a ton.

So... what was in the bag?? A REALLY random assortment of stuff!

Lots of semi-healthy snacks, including Luna Bars (I was excited about these), a beer glass, a nail file, tanning lotion and tanning goggles, the latest issue of New Beauty magazine (which is mostly about plastic surgery, boo), hair spray, iron supplements, sample sizes of Udder Cream body lotion, a Freeman clay mask (most excited about this!!) and some other various things.

I heard that this year was a lot less impressive than previous years, which had been bigger and better. I'm not sure if I'd make the trip to go again next year, but it was a fun experience and I'm glad I checked it out.

Hospitopia, have fun while donating to the Children's Miracle Network of Hospitals

How many of you love to play the Facebook game apps? You know the games like Farmville, Cafe World, Frontiersville, etc? Yea I'm guilty. I have a few that I like to play. Some of them are pretty addicting.

Well a company called CausePlay created and customized the new Facebook game, Hospitopia specifically for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. 10 % off all gross revenue will be donated to the Children's Miracle Network of Hospitals. When you sign up to play Hospitopia you'll be asked who you will be playing for.  There's a drop down box with CMN Hospitals to choose from.  Me, I'm playing for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

In Hospitopia you get to build and grow your own hospital, take care of patients, and play little side games inside the game like the Jumbieland nursery game.

The game is fun and free to play.  As long as you are on Facebook, you can play.  I already started my hospital:  FFCM Hospital (go figure right?).    I'm still learning the ropes but it seems pretty easy so far.  I've played 2 of the side games too.  Also watch videos to earn money for your hospital and "miracle points" to buy cool things to customize your hospital

You can also find Hospitopia on twitter: @hospitopia

If you all have ever watched the xtranormal videos on youtube.  Some of them are pretty funny.  Well they did a video for Hospitopia.  Hope you enjoy.

If you all want a neighbor in Hospitopia, just let me know.  See you there.

***I was not compensated in any way for this post.  I completed this post because I'm a supporter of the Children's Miracle Network and wanted to share this great opportunity to donate with you. ***

E.L.F Essential Lip Sticks

Previously I posted that I had ordered from www.eyeslipsface.com when they were having a sale on their mineral eyeshadows. If I purchased $25.00 or more I got 10 free eyeshadows. Well since I have a ton of their products already, I was just buying cheap fillers...

I decided to try their Essential Lip Sticks that cost $1.00 a piece. I bought 4 of them.
LEFT TO RIGHT: Nostalgic, Classy, Captivating and Flirtacious.

Packaging:

Package says they are made in China.

(Without Flash)

(WITH FLASH)

LEFT TO RIGHT: Nostalgic, Classy, Captivating and Flirtacious.

The tube itself is very light, probably the equivalent to two nail files.
They have a fruity smell to them.
They go on very smooth and are soft.
Only thing I had happen is when I did the swatches, 3 of the lip sticks broke on me. Now I don't know if it has anything to do with the heat and humidity we have in Eastern PA right now, but it made me sad. OR maybe it's because they were $1.00 each.

The Swatches:

Overall I give the lip stick 3 "stars"
Based on price and color.

I most likely won't purchase anymore.
I do love the mineral eyeshadows from e.l.f and pretty much
everything else I've boughten from them. Can't have everything!
