Beyonce inspired mani

Sunday, October 31, 2010

I found this look online, and I wanted to recreate it.  It is very easy, like every look I try out, LOL. It's inspired by one of Beyonce's tour looks, and also, she's been known for wearing metallic nails (she's a big Minx fan). I think this would be great for a night out, the color combination seems very club-like to me.  Of course, like always, you can switch the colors and add a little something to make it your own! Lets start...

First I used 2 coats of "Easel come, easel go!" from Finger Paints as a base.

Then, I used "Black expressionism", also from Finger Paints, to draw a vertical line right down the middle of the nail.  Since it was my first time, I took my time and did this very slowly to go as straight as possible.  I found this look alone very cool, and I will probably wear my nails just like that soon.

Now, the fun part.  Grab your base polish again, and dab off as much nail polish as you can from the brush, it needs to be almost dry.  Then, apply some random brushstrokes to your black stripe here and there.  Finish off with your favorite top coat to make it last, and you are done!  Neat, uh?

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! It's been a quiet weekend, I didn't go to any wild costume parties but my BFF came over yesterday and we made brownies and watched the finale of Project Runway, and this afternoon I treated her to a mani-pedi for her birthday :)

I'm sitting here by the fire with Panini and my laptop, waiting for trick or treaters, although so far we've only had 3 groups (all neighbors) and I doubt we'll have many more!

Panini is feeling much better today, although she still doesn't do much but sleep, and has the shivers from time to time, she's been eating when we feed her and is more responsive. Hopefully she'll be back to her old self in a few days! (This picture was taken a week ago, before she got sick.)

FOTD: Neutral Look with e.l.f. 32 Palette

This is a neutral eye look that can be achieved using the e.l.f. 32 eyeshadow palette.  Today was my first attempt at filming an eye tutorial with my new video camera zoomed in at a super close angle.  Unfortunately, all you could see was my hair!  I decided it was still a great look that I could just share through my blog instead.  Here are the steps and the products I used.

FACE:
* Revlon Colorstay Combo/Oily Liquid Foundation in Ivory
* Benefit Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer in Light
* Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Cream
* Covergirl Cheekers Blush in Classic Pink (apples)
* NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer in Sunny (contour)
* e.l.f. Studio Blush in Gotta Glow (highlight)

LIPS:
* NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil in Chestnut

EYES: (Shades are from the e.l.f. Endless Eyes Pro Mini 32 Eyeshadow Palette)

* Prime eyelids with Too Faced Shadow Insurance
* Pat Shade #1 all over, from lid to browbone.
* Pat Shade #2 on lid.
* Apply Shade #4 in crease, extending slightly above natural crease and creating a slight outer V shape.
* Apply Shade #3 to crease to warm up eyes.
* Blend everything together with a fluffy crease brush.
* Line lower waterline with Wet N Wild Kohl Eyeliner in White.
* Line top lashes with NYC Liquid Eyeliner in Black.  I like to use an angled liner brush to apply this.
* Line lower lashline with Shade #2, applied with an angled liner brush.
* Curl lashes.  Apply a coat of Too Faced Lash Injection to top lashes.

Urban Decay Naked Palette (Part 1)

Hi everyone!

So I finally got my Urban Decay Naked Palette. My mom had been planning to get it for me for my birthday, so she put her name on the waiting list at Sephora (this was mid-September!) and finally they got some in!

I used it this morning for a really neutral look (I'll try to post a picture later, along with a post with swatches!) and I can't even believe how beautiful this palette is. The colours complement each other amazingly, so there's no guesswork when trying to come up with a colour combo. Everything works. The colours with chunky glitter (Sidecar, Creep, Gunmetal) have a bit of fallout, but that's to be expected with that kind of texture.

There are two matte colours (Naked, Buck) and I'm glad they chose these two to be the matte ones. They're nice and light, and blend beautifully. The matte texture suits the colours very well.

My favourite of the two iridescent colours (Virgin, Sin) is Virgin. It's a pinky off-white with pearly-pink iridescence. Absolutely gorgeous. It's not too frosty and shiny to be used as a lid colour, and it's amazing as a highlight.

Also, I love that it comes with eyeliner and a mini-UDPP. The eyeliners (Zero, Whiskey) seem to be of the same quality as the full size product, and are great on the waterline. I have the full-size Zero and it's down to a little stub, so I'm happy to have another one!

On a final note (for this post at least!) I LOVE the packaging. So classy, not at all cheesy or gaudy, as I find many UD palettes to be. I have a major issue touching velvet (weird, I know), but for this palette I think I can soldier on!

I'll put up another post a bit later with some swatches (I'm on campus right now with no makeup wipes or brushes!)

Butterfly-inspired Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!  I did my partying last night, which turned out to be so much fun.  The party I went to didn't require a costume, but my friend and I still wanted to do something creative and pretty.  I remembered seeing Nee from Kitty Loves Makeup's butterfly masquerade makeup tutorial and loving it- so I tried to create my own version of it.  Mine turned out to be pretty darn similar in the basic design of the butterfly, but I used different colors and mediums to get the effects I wanted.  Although it didn't turn out perfect, I hope you guys like it!

I'll try to remember everything I used!
-Almay Bright Eyes eye base+concealer
-Annabelle kohl eyeliner in black
-ELF professional liquid eyeliner in black (I wouldn't recommend this, but I didn't want to buy something more expensive when I never use black liquid eyeliner)
-Purples from the Coastal Scents 88 Matte palette
-Bright purple, shimmery white, shimmery black from ELF Bright Eyes beauty book
-Matte purple from the Wet 'n' Wild Lust palette
-Milani Liquif'eye eyeliner in silver
-Physicians Formula gel/cream liner for green eyes, the purple shade
-Ardell false lashes
-L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen mascara in black

For my foundation I just used my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind (the eraser) foundation, along with the contouring shade from my ELF Studio Contouring Blush+Bronzer (I've decided bronzer is a must have for me, especially in the winter.  I look pale and lifeless without it).

Thanks for reading guys, I appreciate it!  And thank you Kitty Loves Makeup for the fabulous idea!

How I Wore MAC's Impassioned

MAC'S Impassioned lipsticks is one of those beauties you view from afar. Love but don't touch. I bought it with the idea that I would wear it on nights out, and then soon realised I didn't have anywhere near the confidence I needed to do this.

As a pink-red-coral (depends on the lighting!) it can be totally unforgiving, but can also look stunning.Last night I went to a Hallowe'en party where everyone was dressed up (whoops, all except me), so I decided that I would let Impassioned venture out of the collection. And it did not displease.

Face:
Givenchy Sculpt Subli'Mine Sculptlight
MAC Harmony Blush (as contour)
MAC Melba Blush

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Urban Decay Virgin e/s (inner corner)
MAC All That Glitters (all over)
Urban Decay Half-Baked, Buck, Smog (crease)
Eyeko Black Graffiti Liner
Sleek Nocturnal Kajal Liner
Maybelline Full 'n Soft Mascara

Lips:
MAC Impassioned

My dog loved it too..

Caturday!

It's Caturday! And my poor Panini is sick :( She has a very bad cold (caught from Psycho, one of the big cats who is indoor-only, how she caught it is a mystery) and hasn't gotten off the couch in 3 days. She's had 2 trips to the vet and lots of fluids, we're sooo worried about her :( She's such a frail kitten, but her fever is gone now so hopefully she's on the mend. Everyone please send good vibes her way!
