Cute cheap finds: Target and Goodwill

A big Goodwill opened in a nearby town we sometimes go shopping in. Goodwills around here have become SO expensive I barely shop there anymore - especially when I can buy brand new clothes at Old Navy or wherever for $5, why pay even more for used clothes? But the one good thing about them around here is that they get cast-offs from Target and other stores! It seems that overstock or clearance items that don't sell get sent to Goodwills, so there are tons of brand new things hanging around!

Today I saw tons of Christmas decorations, pajamas, shoes, comforters/bedding, and other stuff fresh from Target. Ironically, some of the Goodwill prices were higher than the clearance prices they didn't sell for at Target!

My find was this awesome pink leopard Mulberry for Target bag! It was originally $29.99 (and I'd eyed it in Target multiple times) but at the Goodwill for $10. Brand new with tags, of course! I also then stopped at Target and found another one - the teeny black one - for only $3.47 on clearance (normally $14.99)!

Then I found all this awesome V-Day stuff in Target's dollar section. Hand towels, cellophane bags, a cupcake rug, and little heart-shaped boxes.

Everything was $1 or $2.50! I love Valentine's Day, if not for just the massive amounts of cute stuff the stores all produce. Valentine's Day used to all be about sappy cards, velvet heart-shaped chocolate boxes, and stuffed animals holding hearts and/or candy. Now it seems like just an excuse to make adorable things, especially cupcake-themed things! Since when do cupcakes = Valentine's Day? To me, they're a year-round thing, but who cares, as long as they keep making cute stuff, right? :)

Joss & Main- New CSN Stores private sales website!

You all know I've had great experiences so far with CSN Stores.  I did my first review of one of their products back in November, on this Knomo ID card wallet that I love and use every day.

Well, I was just informed by CSN Stores about a great new website for private designer sales (along the likes of Hautelook, Gilt, etc.) called Joss & Main.  Joss & Main runs sales on various home furnishings, so while it's not beauty-related, it's still a great place to check out for designer-quality items at a fraction of the price.  The exciting part for me (and hopefully for all of you!) is that this week they are featuring two sales by Knomo- the brand that makes the ID card wallet I reviewed last year.  Knomo makes really chic and modern briefcases and bags from what I've seen.  I can speak for the quality and functionality of the wallet I have, so if the rest of their products are just as good, I'll be excited to check out what Joss & Main has for sale this week.

Here's the line-up for the Knomo sales at Joss & Main this week:

Tuesday, 2/1- Knomo Men's messengers and briefcases

Thursday, 2/3- Knomo Women's messengers and briefcases

To sign up:  You have to become a member in order to partake in the sales on Joss & Main, which is completely free like most private sale sites.  My personal invitation link is HERE, so click through that link if you're interested in signing up through me!

I'd love to hear if you see anything you like!

Disclaimer:  This post contains a referral link that I get credit for ONLY if someone signs up.  All thoughts and opinions are my own, as I would never recommend something I didn't fully support.

Not a size 4? No worries! You can still be sexy!

Just because you are not a size 4 does NOT mean you can't look beautiful and feel sexy! There are many great places to shop! Gap is a great place to shop for nice work or weekend clothes because they go up to a size XXL which would be the equivalant of a size 22. And if you are particularly tall or petite (which means short, not small!!) Then you can buy tall and petite as well! Here is just an outfit option for you girls!

Please do not rule this top out! It has many features that would be flattering. There is a line that goes all down the center of the stomach which would hide a tummy automatically and the bow is a distraction and a great feature that people would focus on, so when they are staring at you, do not be self concious, they are admiring your top and wondering where you got it!

This sweater would be a great additive in this color or in black and with or without the belt! Alternate wearing the belt and not. Get a metallic skinny belt in either silver or gold. The belt will hit the smallest part of your waist, making it appear like you have lost 15 pounds! Then pair with wide leg jeans and flats!

The top would also look SO good under this blazer left open!

Wear these with the top and the open blazer and roll up the bottom of the pants just a little!

A wedge such as this would look so good with this outfit! If you don't do heels, TRY them! 9 times out of 10, you will LOVE them. Plus they give you height which in turn, makes you appear tall and lean.

These are a great alternative if you are saying no way to the heels... but do us both a favor by testing some heels or wedges out!

This scarf would look so cute with this outfit! If you want to show off your bow on your shirt, forget the scarf... if you just want some more flare to the outfit... scarf!! Either way is cute.

This bag is a great color if you want one bag for every outfit, it literally goes with everything you own.

This is a fun bag option if you are not wearing the scarf and you love to have lots of purses! It goes with a lot more than you think!

I realize I did not add any jewelry but that is because a necklace would distract from the bow. So find some fun earrings and bracelets!

Want me to personally make you an outfit? Let me know! I can do it on a budget too!

MakEuP FUN!

This is one of the most popular blushes in the US! It kind of has an embarrassing name but it is absolutely gorgeous and universally flattering! It is called Orgasm by Nars. You can find it at Sephora or Sephora.com!

In my personal opinion, this is the best mascara to ever exist hands down! This is also available at Sephora!!

I have this beautiful palette myself! It has a great range of colors and are not harsh. The colors are quite pigmented and true to color.

Need a new eye shadow primer? This one cannot be beat! It lasts alll day and does not crease! And in case you did not know that you need eye shadow primer for your shadow, you do, and it will change your life!

Now, if you need foundation and hate liquid, bare minerals powder is the way to go. It has the fullest coverage as far as powder goes. And a benefit to this is that you can find your perfect color because they make about 40+ shades instead of light, medium, or dark. But if you love or want to try liquid...

I LOVE this! It goes on thin but covers! And it is the NARS sheer glow foundation so it gives a gorgeous natural glow. To make liquid look best and stay put you need two things: a foundation primer (Smashbox makes great primers) and you need to put powder on top! It makes it look more natural.

So, I worked at Sephora but I was certified with MAC so I am not partial to either one and I love to branch out. If you are a MAC-feen, test out Sephora or Ulta...It will open your eyes and change your life! In a fun way, of course. Makeup is fun so enjoy it and try new brands!

Passport Pouts

Holding to my word, I ventured out of my house last night. Bad idea, soon after I got up this morning I was back in my bed. The whole "sick skin sheen" destroyed my new passport photos on top of my disastrously red cheeks. Ah well, no one see's it much eh?

My friends and I have decided to go to the university ball on in two weeks. The prospect of hair, make up and pretty dress is more than I can bear, and I'm looking forward more to that than the night itself. Watch this space as I'll probably do a few looks so you can help me choose what to wear etc. Excited!

Today brings a FOTD, as my face hasn't featured in this blog for a while (lucky you)..This was before my body realised it still wasn't better. In bed with dark chocolate (with raspberry bits none the less), hot water bottle and a wad of tissues.
Happy Monday!

Best $1.99 nail polish I've ever seen! Confetti "Moonstruck" (OPI METRO CHIC DUPE)

I'm really loving this nail polish. I bought it on a whim at 12am while doing some midnight shopping at CVS. I was looking at foundations at the sales women pointed me over the the nail polishes because she thought I should check them out. I have never heard of the brand Confetti before and honestly didn't have very high hopes for it seeing as it was only $1.99. I was wrong. This nail polish is everything I was hoping OPI's Metro Chic would be. I wasn't a fan of the Metro Chic... there was just something about it that was wrong on me. This color is VERY similar but a little more wearable with my skin tone. I like the finish better than I did with OPI's, it dried super fast, too... AND no streaks. I used two coats but I could get away just fine with only one. This is a really dark muddy gray/purple... it's lovely and the best part is it's only $1.99!

Sephora by OPI "Metro Chic"

Have you tried this brand before? Thoughts? If not... you must! I can only say good things about THIS color... not sure how the other colors wear {though they all looked quite pretty}.

Sunday Round Up #1

Sunday Summary has become my version of what many other bloggers do at the end of the week. I especially love Victoria's and Lily's so thought I would do my own little version.

one After a shaky start to the week, I've a much more positive outlook for this one. While college isn't necessarily for me, I'm focusing on getting it done and over with so I can do what I want to do afterwards. On Wednesday I went out with a few of the girls from college for dinner and cocktails in TGI's. NOM. It was exactly what I needed to cheer me up and their kindness was greatly appreciated.

two  I have come to the realisation (hell, I've always known) that I'm an online shopping addict. I don't buy many clothes in shops as I find the experience daunting; busy and impatient people, snappy sales assistants, the incessant heat of the shops, and the rain in Dublin put me in a constant bad mood. So I've been buying everything online for the last few months (apart from make up, I love being attacked by make up artists). This week I bought this, this, this and these. Eek, I think there may be more but I forget. I wanted a skirt like this to go with the jacket but it sold out just as I went to pay. Boo. If anyone knows a skirt in that style please let me know!

three I've been sick for the past four days. Temperatures, sore throat, back and chest. Slightly miserable really. I write this post from my bed,but tomorrow mark my words I'll be better. And if I'm not, I'm still leaving my house. Apologies for the lack of make up in the picture above, I only had the energy for mascara and lipstick before hopping into bed. I watched Les Choristes last night which is one of my favourite films, if you haven't seen it already check it out. Tearjerker. And I realised how my love for this woman grows and grows. I get my laptop back tomorrow too, hurraah!

four I was mentioned on the Beaut.ie website today, and I just want to say a massive thank you! Their blog is incredible and the best in my little old country! How was everyones weekend?

Happy Sunday!

What's your definition of a Low Entry Giveaway?

I'm a one that actively seeks out low entry giveaways. Almost daily.  It seems that there a many different perceptions of what is considered "low entry".

I seek out low entry giveaways for several reasons:

1.  Good chance of winning

2.  Helps out  fellow bloggers to get more entries into their giveaway

3.  A lot of them are grocery or beauty type items I would normally buy anyway. This has helped take a bite out of our grocery bill which is fantastic.

So my question to you is, What do you consider "low entry"?

My personal definition is a giveaway with less than 100 entries and ending within a week.  There are exceptions if there are several winners. I usually multiply that by the number of winners for the giveaway.  So if there are 2 winners, less than 200 entrants still fit in my definition and so on.   One exception to my rule would be if it's a really big prize with less than 200.  For example, something like a Dyson vacuum with only 200 entries and a week left would be low for that prize, in my opinion.

I don't like it when I see 200+ entries with 1 winner and it's being promoted as low entry.   I also hate to see when there is still 2 weeks left on the giveaway and it's being promoted as low entry. That's just my opinion though.  I know there are many views out there.

That being said, I found a giveaway with low entries today I thought I'd share as an example:

Barefoot in Portland has a giveaway for a GLEE make your own candy kit.  With my entries included there are only 13 entries so far and end 2/4 (less than a week away).  So stop over and enter.

New Neutrogena Naturals!

I stumbled upon this new line at Target yesterday, Neutrogena naturals. Everything is free of dyes, parabens, chemical sulfates, petrochemicals, and phthalates! The ingredients are itemized and explained on the backs of all the prouducts.

So far the line includes cleanser, cleanser + makeup remover, scrub, bar soap, and lip balm - all very reasonably priced! I'm excited that major companies are taking the step to become more conscious of the chemicals they put into their products.

Check out their site here for more information!

Valentine Handmade with Love sponsor spotlight: South Texas Naturals

Saturday, January 29, 2011

The Valentine Handmade with Love Gift Hop will be happening Feb. 2-6. Many blogs will be participating. All giveaway items are handmade items. I'm so excited to be sharing my wonderful sponsors with you. The next wonderful sponsor I have is:  South Texas Naturals

Handmade with Love Winter Giveaway

South Texas Naturals offers handcrafted soaps as well as other handcrafted items like sachets and lip balms.  South Texas Naturals also has a gifts and favors section.  That would be a great idea for baby showers, wedding favors, prizes at parties, and whatever else you can think of.  Who doesn't use soap?

I'm a fan of shea butter and whipped body lotions.  While browsing the site I see that South Texas Naturals also offers whipped shea butter, cuticle cream, goats milk lotion, solid lotion stick, and other things to quench that dry winter skin.

South Texas Naturals took the time to answer some of my questions to learn more about her business:

" I started making handmade soaps about 10 years ago after the birth of my 2nd child.  He had very bad eczema and I need to find a solution to his dry skin that was cost effective as the medicine the doctors prescribed was too expensive.  I did a lot research and found many stories of how handmade soaps was great for dry skin.  So I was decided to give it a try in making my own and I haven't been able to stop since.  My biggest passion about it is being able to create my own recipes and trying them out.  Not all make it through to the end, but I love the feeling of accomplishment once a recipe I create comes together!

I have just started to venture from  just soaps to other handmade products such as lip balms, lotions, solid lotions and massage bars.  I am hoping to expand my product line this year in 2011 to bring many more handmade products. "  ---South Texas Naturals

You can also find South Texas Naturals on etsy

South Texas Naturas on twitter: @STNaturals

And South Texas Naturals on facebook

If you want to get a head start on some of the Valentine Gift Giveaway Hop entries you can follow the sponsors on their etsy, twitter, and/or facebook pages now.

Snow Tubing at Hidden Valley Resort in PA...could have been great.

It was two weeks of, "Mom when are we going snow tubing with the boy scouts". I was looking forward to it myself. Neither my boys or myself had ever been snow tubing. I had been to Hidden Valley Resort in Hidden Valley, PA for a wedding about 10 yrs ago, but that was about it. The boy scouts in our area do this trip each year. This is the first year we were actually able to go. I lined up a baby sitter for my toddler. I was a little nervous. I didn't know what to expect. I'm not a fan of being out in the cold for very long.  If I had only known that the cold would be the least of my concerns.

We arrive at Hidden Valley Resort. The snow tubing sign was prominent at the entrance of the resort. It wasn't hard to find at all. We quickly found our boyscout pack, signed our release paper, gave our money to our pack leader who got us the group rate ($14 a piece for 2 hrs), and before long we were headed to the snow tubing slopes.

Our group time was scheduled 12-2 pm. Two Hidden Valley Resort employees gave us all a quick run down on the rules for safety. There was a visible conveyer belt (they called the magic carpet) that would take us with our tubes to the top of the hills.

It started off well enough. Then it started to get busy, yea, pretty busy. The Hidden Valley Resort employees were starting to become noticeably frazzled and at times, down right rude.

There were 2-3 employees at the top of the hill that were supposed to be helping to push people down the hills, as well as let us know when it was ok to go. They did neither. Several times I had to leave my inner tube to mark my place in line to step away and push my children down the hill as the employees stood there complaining about the people and socialized.

There were 2 employees at the bottom of the hills thatI had assumed were there to direct people. Only a few times did I hear them yell at small children to hurry up and get off the slopes. At one point I witnessed a child that looked to be about 5 or 6 yrs old literally get run down buy a full grown man in an inner tube. (Thanks employees at the top for being so vigil). The father was panicked and ran over to pick up his son. The employees just stood there. In the panic the father ran his son off the slopes leaving the tube behind. The kind and caring worker ::that's sarcasm:: picked up the tube and threw it to the side while shaking his head and rolling his eyes. Seriously people, I witnessed this.

As it grew busy they opened another "lift" to the top. The conveyor belt was still running but they opened up  one that had the hooks that hooked onto the tube handles and gave you a ride up on your tube. My boys were in front of me. The employee hooking people up to this list was visibly annoyed. He was yelling at my 7 yr old "Hurry up, Hurry up, let's go". It wasn't just my child though, I observed him speaking similarly to other people and children going through.

After an hour we decided to go inside where there was an over-priced concession stand. No one was manning the station. There were two employees directly behind us that were handling the tickets. They stood there and socialized as a line formed at the unmanned concession stand.  The man behind me became impatient and asked the ticket employees if someone was working behind the concession stand. She said "oh let me see if I can find someone".  After about 5 more minutes a girl comes down to take our order who says "I don't normally work down here so, I'm not familiar with the menu."  Great... We did finally get our food.  We sat at a bar style counter and ate.  I noticed a younger man sitting behind me eating.  I thought he was another snow tuber.  He cracked some jokes at a guy coming through the door.  At least 3 of them gathered around.  It turned out they were employees.  As I nibbled on my soft pretzel I got to enjoy their rantings about how busy it was.  One employee even said "These people...dude you sit on the tube, you grab the handles, and you go down the hill, how hard is that?!" I was shocked that these Hidden Valley Resort employees were allowed to sit there and bash the clients that were sitting right behind them.

It could have been a great experience at Hidden Valley Resort in Hidden Valley, PA  for my children, the boys scouts, and I.  Instead the customer service made us seem like we were more of a pest than paying customers.

Revlon Age Defying SPF 25 concealer in light

Luckily for me, the CVS beauty clearance sale is still going on!  There aren't any CVS's where my parents live, so while I was staying with them over break I couldn't take advantage of the first days of the sale.  But that's OK, because when I got back to school- and CVS country- I was able to stop in.  One of the (two) things I purchased was the Revlon Age Defying concealer in the shade light, which contains an SPF of 15.   I've heard nothing but rave reviews about this stuff so I was excited to see it 75% off!

Revlon touts this as a "restorative eye cream concealer".  It contains Botafirm which the packaging doesn't really explain, but after a little research online I found that it's for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and also contains vitamins.  It comes with 0.37oz of product, and I got the lightest shade, Light (ha, really?).

The consistency is very creamy, and thinner than I'd expect it to be seeing as it's in a tube.  I'd say it's in between your standard liquid concealer and cream concealer.  You only need a small little dab of this as it's very pigmented (you can see from my swatches below).  I love this, because it means my tube will last me a long time.  The pigmented formula means it has good coverage, as opposed to some liquid concealers I've tried (I just recently realized the difference the kind of concealer can make- and that each kind serves its own purpose.  Thicker cream concealers are better for pimples, while lighter/thinner formulas are typically better for larger areas, spots, under eyes).

Because this is more specifically for under eyes, I first tried it there.  I used to not conceal under my eyes but recently I've had just... terrible dark spots (like right in the tearduct area, if you know what I mean).  Probably due to the fact that I haven't been sleeping much lately, but that's college for ya!  Anyway, I find this works about average at covering the darkness- it doesn't cover as well as my Maybelline Double Face Perfecter concealer, but I like it better despite that for other reasons:
- it doesn't cake/settle into the delicate skin area
- it melts into my skin instead of sitting on top of it
- it leans yellow so it conceals redness well
- it lasts all day with the rest of my face makeup (foundation/powder)
- you don't need much because of how pigmented it is, so the little bottle will last you a long time

If your CVS still has this in stock, I think it's a steal at a little over $3.  I recommended it to my friend and she is in love with it, too.

Have you guys tried this?  (I think I'm pretty late to the party with trying it)  How's your weekend going?  I have piles and piles of work to get done and errands to run.  So.. hopefully I'll talk to you soon.  :)
