MAC Haul

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

I'm soooo happy! I went to MAC yesterday. I took back the Prep & Prime and a few other things that I got but wasn't sure about or didn't open.
This is what I got...

129 blush/power brush. How did I EVER live without this brush. This should be a staple brush in every make-up junkies life! It really makes a world of difference. The 129 really helps your blush go on just amazing! This is a MUST HAVE!!

I got the Cubic blush. Gorgeous, gorgeous color. It's a nice muted soft pink color.

I also got the blush Margin. I LOVE THIS! To me it's like a very subtle So Ceylon... it gives that whole candle light glow on the cheeks. It's a stunning color. MAC description of it is Muted peach with golden shimmer (Frost)

On to the shadows...I got Satin Taupe and Woodwinked. One word for both- lovely!

Are you warm or cool colored?

I have warm coloring but I found this very helpful understanding what that really meant. I found it at Carefair.com Here is the article.

"Am I Warm or Cool?

No two colors tell which category you’re in better than gold and silver. Place two color swatches, one gold and one silver under natural or bright incandescent light (fluorescent lights change your skin tone and will not give you an accurate color test.) Remove all jewelry from your hands. Place one hand on the gold swatch and the other on the silver swatch. One hand will look pasty, the other healthy and bright. If the hand on the gold swatch looks best, you are a warm. If the hand on the silver swatch looks best, you’re cool. Remember, these categories have nothing to do with your personality. It simply identifies your natural skin tone.

Look closely at the back of your hand, warm skin tones will have yellow-orange cast. Cool skin tone has no yellow-orange. If you’re a cool, you’ll see blue undertones.

This is key to building a color cosmetic palette that will complement your skin. Choose shades with frost or shimmer and undertones according to the hue of your skin.

What are “My Colors”?

It’s difficult to start choosing shades of make up in an attempt to find your best look. Instead, start with an easy, do-it-yourself color test to find what shades will compliment your face as well as your wardrobe– both work together to give you your perfect look.

Remove all make up and style your hair as you usually do. (If your hair is colored, pull it back or wrap in a white towel. This will tell you if your hair color is your best shade.) In front of a mirror large enough to see your entire face and shoulders, under bright sunlight or natural lighting, drape yellow material (any articles of clothing will do) around the front of your neck across bare shoulders and chest. Look at how that color affects your face. If you are warm, it will brighten your appearance, minimize dark shadows and draw attention to your eyes. If you’re cool the effect will be just the opposite. Your face will look sallow and blotchy with pronounced shadows around the eyes, nose and mouth. If you’re cool toned, drape blue material to see the effect you’re going for – bright skin and eyes with no pronounced shadows. Continue to color test all your favorite tops. Make two piles, one that works and one that doesn’t. When you’re done, look at the pile that works. Those colors will tell you what makeup shades are best for you.

In general you will find that warm tones best wear beige-based foundations and concealers while cool tones wear ivory-based foundations and concealers.

Warm tones best wear color cosmetics in natural earth colors like mocha, bronze and browns in shades from camel to warm dark taupe. Try eye colors in bright navy, warm tawny oranges and sage, olive, moss, jade, grass, celery and apple greens. Experiment with highlighter shades in white, peach and apricot. For a night out, look for lipstick shades in brick red, dark tomato or burnt orange. Be sure your shimmer has translucent gold undertones.

Cool tones best wear rich colors. Try eye wear in vivid blue-red tones from royal to aquatic blues, sapphire to soft pastels. Look for deep emerald and icy greens, plum and rose-based pinks. Choose highlighter shades in pure or soft white. Pure black mascara enhances cool skin. Be bold in lip colors like ruby and electric pinks."

Have a great night!:)

MAC Fix+

Sunday, December 28, 2008

My dear sister in-law got me this for Christmas. I didn't even ask for it or even knew I wanted it! This stuff is great! My favorite thing about it is the scent... it's smells delicious! I can't even really describe the scent but it's very light and refreshing. The Fix + works amazing to set your make-up and give you a very beautiful dewy look or just a nice "pick-me-up" when you are feeling tried. It has caffeine in it as well as cucumber extract and other minerals.
I haven't tried this but I've heard of some girls using this on their hair to calm the frizzies as well as spraying the Fix+ on their eyeshadow to give it stronger color.
I really like this stuff... not really so much for setting my make-up but because it's really refreshing. I've had almost 2 years of broken sleep... yep...haven't slept a whole night through in 2 years...so I'm tired!! This stuff makes me feel a little more energized in the morning.

The Foundations that I have and what I feel about them

Saturday, December 27, 2008

I'm really not a big foundation gal to be honest with you but I've been wearing them more this year for some odd reason. Maybe it's because I'm getting older and I need more coverage or maybe I just was bored with using the Bare Minerials (doubt it, though..I love BM).
Here is what I have and here is what I feel about each one.
-Smashbox HD Heathly FX Foundation in Fair F2
I just got this one and I have to say I'm quite impressed. It glides on very smoothly and doesn't feel heavy on my face. It's a light foundation but it gives very nice coverage. It doesn't have a scent so that's a plus for me. It seems to be very gentle on the face. This one so far seems to be a winner in my book. It was $38 from Sephora.

-Revlon ColorStay in 180 Sand Beige
I really like this one. To me this seems like a MAC Studio Fix NW20 dupe except it doesn't smell bad like the MAC and doesn't break my face out also like the MAC.
This has amazing coverage! It's a long wearing foundation so that means not a lot of touch ups during the day because it lasts a long time..hence the name ColorStay!:) It's kinda thick in the consistancy but doesn't feel cakey or drying on my face. It doesn't really have a scent either... I'm very please with this one as well.
Around $10 from the drugstone

-MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW20
Why I keep using this is beyond me! I will be nice and say it does give great coverage however... it smells HORRIBLE!! The first day I tried it I had a headache from it. That's not good! This stuff breaks my face out BAD. It's not like normal pimples either.. I can't even explain it...they are like deep under the skin and just stay there... like a hard bump...gross!! I've heard other people say this foundation broke their face out with weird pimples, too...two of which were my sister in-laws who were using this as well. Time to chuck this one I think.

-L'Oreal True Match in W3 Nude Beige
I've had no problemos with this one! It's a very nice color and gives medium coverage and feels light on the face. This has no scent and I've had no problems with this one breaking me out. I don't normally grab this one but I really should. It's a very nice CHEAP foundation. Cheap in price but not in quality!

Make Up Forever HD Power Review

I must admit I had REALLY high hopes and expectations for this powder. I'm sad to report I am extreamly disappointed! I really dislike this stuff! It makes my face feel really dry and kinda cakey. It claims to be completely sheer but it makes me look uber white! It's a very messy product. It's hard to put on without it getting on your shirt or pants or even in your hair! It didn't give me that polished look as I was hoping. The BE Mineral Vail is a different type of product but basically the same idea and I'd have to say save your money on the MUFE Powder because the Mineral Vail will give you the same effect but maybe even better. The BE never made my face feel dry! Today at Sephora I picked up Lorac's Translucent Touchup Powder in TL2... this stuff is amazing. This is the type of product I was hoping the MUFE HD Power would be. The Lorac's does give a little color to the face but it's very light and sheer... covers my pores and smooths out my face. I highly recommend this over the HD Power any day.
Like any review this is only my opinion... beauty is subjective. Some people may love this and some may not... and I'm one who doesn't care for it sadly.

Beauty Society and My skin care routine

Monday, December 22, 2008

For some odd reason the website I posted before isn't working anymore. I've had a few people ask about the site so here it is...

http://bellabeautiful.societyskincare.com/Pages/Homepage.aspx

I've been using these products for my daily skincare routine. I've have NO break outs and extreamly smooth skin since I've started using it. These products are very gentle and perfect of sensitive skin.

Here is what I've been using-
First I cleanse my face with the "EASY GOING gentle creme cleanser". It's very gentle on the skin yet gets all the make-up off...which is a must! It's so important to get all the make-up out of your pores. You know what clogged pores means, ladies. Nasty pimples!

Then I use the "Crystal Ball microdermabrasion treatment" 3 times a week. I was using MAC's product like this and MAC's was just ok... but I've really like the Crystal Ball. It makes my face feel like it did when I was a kid...so soft!!

After I wash my face I use "Our Little Secret" firming serum. This does a great job to firm the skin...

Then I use "LOVE THY FACE miracle moisturizer". My skin has been SOOOO dry this winter and this has really help...BIG TIME!

The final step is Photoshoot make-up primer. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!!!! I've tried the MAC Prep & Prime.. hated it. I've tired the Smashbox primer...yuck. The Photoshoot has a very matte/smooth feel... yet very light on the skin. It make the make-up look flawless and very smooth on your face.

Once a week I use "UPTIGHT hyper firming masque"....and this mask is AMAZING...you wear it for 10 minutes and it tightens your face right...when you are wearing it though... don't try and drink anything...lol.. you won't be able to open your mouth that wide. Like I said...It does an amazing job at tighting your face.

So, using these products daily you will have great skin. My skin has gone down the crapper these past few years from tanning, having two babies, being stressed out, getting older... I truly do believe these will be my fountain of youth if I continue to use them...which I'm going to. I've tried a lot of products and I can honestly say I've been extreamly impressed with all of these. I wouldn't tell you so if I wasn't!:)

Tag! I'm it now... :)

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

I was tagged by the lovely Yelebella to give 16 random fact about myself. Ok, this is going to be hard... I'm kinda boring. LOL

1. I lived in Guatemala for two years and have about 13 Guatemala stamps in my passport. I worked at an orphanage there...I moved there when I turned 19. Myself and 3 other girls worked with the babies... this was a full-time job (no pay)...a 24/7 job. Basically we were these babies mommas because we were in charge of them around the clock..feeding them, bathing them, loving them, taking care of them when they were sick. We had 13 kids under 2 in our care.

2. I become interested in make-up from the time I could walk. I have pictures of me from when I was 2 when I got into my moms make-up... my face covered in purple eyeshadow.. or the time when I found the markers and colored my lips and cheeks red and my eyes were colored in blue. Ha ha.

3. I have two little sons! They are exactly 17 months apart. Neither were planned but both are gifts.

4. I secretly want to have my own TV show.. I dream about it. I secretly wanna be an actress too... but who doesn't?

5. I must have A.D.D or something because I get really excited about a project or doing something but then I just stop doing it and never finish it. I wish I wasn't like that. It's a bad quality.

6. I'm actually rrreeeally inscure about looks. If I could tweak like 10 things about my face/body maybe I'd be a little more content but probably not.

7. I used to be obsessed with myspace than it went to facebook and now it's youtube

8. I llloooovvve coca-cola. I crave it if I don't get at least one can a day.

9. I hate to work out. Hate it. All my life I always weighted 100-105lbs and never worked out a day in my life... but now that I've had two babies I think I might have to!!:(

10. I hate my hair. It's naturally curly and it takes forever to straighten it and it never looks right. I've been growing my hair long for 6 years and it's taking sooooo long!!

11. Websites that I check daily (some are weird) hotmail, youtube, myspace, facebook, danasdirt.com, celebrity-babies.com, google, makeupalley

12. I'm addicted to HGTV! I love love love to decorate and wish I had a million bucks to make my house they way I want it.

13. I hate to clean. My house looks like a bomb went off every night...toys everywhere, books, sippy cups on the floor...and night after night I pick everything and line all my sons cars up...and I'm soooo over cleaning!!

14. I love to dance. I took salsa lessons when I was in Guatemala and I so wish that I was an amazing salsa dancer.

15. I'm so not adventurous with make-up. I stick to a semi natural look... if I were to put black eyeshadow on I'd seriously look like a drag queen. I don't think I look good with a lot of make-up on... it makes me look horrible. If I try something new and put my blush on darker or make my eyes darker I get super insecure about it and have a hard time looking people in the face because I think I look horrible!!!

16. I would give anything to live somewhere warm (ie Cali, AZ, FL) because I hate the cold...brrr... but I couldn't stand being far from family especially now that I have two small kids.

I TAG YOU!!!!!!!!

Thanks Rite Aid though I don't like you

I went out to Rite Aid tonight...it's like 2 miles from my house... I don't usually go to Rite Aid... anyone that knows me knows that I hate Rite Aid for some odd reason ( I needed an US Weekly to curl up with on this cold windy night). I grew up going to CVS so that's what I prefer plus I think the CVS stores are cleaner and nicer but that's a whole different story.
Anyway, on to my story...I must live in the most boring/uncool town because look what I found...
Photobucket

I think my town is the only town in the US that has any of these left...let alone a FULLY stocked display.
I picked one more up for my contest. Now I have two Sunstones and one moonstone to give away.
I know they aren't like $50 products and they are from the drugstone but they are limited edition and I just wanted to give some people who couldn't get them a chance to try them..ya know? Plus I really like the Sunstore a lot. It's a very pretty color!

LORAC Translucent Touch Up Powder & TANtalizer

I love love love this stuff. I hate powder to tell you the truth because I have really dry skin and powder tends to make my face feel dryer. I hate the way it feels when I move my face... it makes my face feel so tight.
This stuff is different than any other powder I've put on my face. It's so light and sheer and really pretty! My face feels so soft and smooth. It gives you a very finished/glowing look. I love it! It's non drying and it's made for sensitive skin..so in sense... it's perfect!:) The color I use is TL 2.
It's $32 from Sephora.

TANtalizer Baked Bronzer
This stuff is BEAUTIFUL!!! Very much reminds of MAC's So Ceylon but a little more bronze. It's such a pretty color and looks great on. It's an amazing pop of color and fab glow... it's $28... I still prefer the SO Ceylon but this is a def must have because it's a little different in color.

Make-up Vanity

Thursday, December 11, 2008

I don't have a proper make-up vanity and it makes me sad. Boo hoo. I have to sit down doing my make-up for some reason so I have a full length mirror in our walk-in closet and it sit on the floor in there. Horrible lighting. Not enough space. Not enough storage. Not happpy.
I saw the COOLEST vanity at IKEA a few years ago. It was a tall vanity and it had doors on the front so at first glace it looked like a modern cupboard/desk with a tall stool. When you open it up...*gasp*...every girls dream! *sigh* The inside was a huge mirror and the doors had lights on them and the inside at the top of the mirror had lights = FAB LIGHTING. It had several drawers. It was in a word...perfect! I literally sat at it for 10 minutes (mind you I was 9 months preggers and a few days overdue with my first son but whatever) and went back to it a few times while we were there. It was $500 so I didn't get it... but I dream of it.
I tried to look for a picture of it but I couldn't find it online! :( :(
I saw this vanity..it's TOTALLY differnet than the IKEA one and it's totally girly but it's 2,000...so ha! nevermind! I found it at this site and they have some cute ones and some ugly ones, too.

It was never a diss

I wanna make something clear... I never "dissed" Enormous Lash. Someone thinks it funny how one day I'm dissing it and the next day selling it. In my post about being annoyed was because when I returned there was a big misunderstanding because I had bought mine off of ebay and not directly from the company. Everything is worked out and I started talking to the lovely ladies at the company and they told me how I can being a selling "Diva" for them and it sounded like a GREAT business opportunity because I'm a stay at home momma and it would be a great way to make some extra money. Beauty Society sells other things besides Enormous Lash... they sell the most amazing skin care/anti aging products.

Again I must say... I never dissed Enormous Lash. I just had a baby and really don't have the patience right right now for it. It says it could take 6 to 12 weeks to kick in and I only gave mine a fair 3 weeks. In my first blog about it I said I started to see new hair sprout out within a few days of using it. To me that's pretty impressive! So, I wanna make it clear.. I never dissed them.
SO, if you guys think it's "funny" that I'm now selling it... than that's fine. I'm also selling EVERYTHING from that company...which is a great line. It's not your Grandma's skincare company... it's fresh and youthful and seriously really good!

I'm sorry if you think it's "funny" I'm selling this stuff but hey that's ok. It's gonna help out my family and create a good business for me!:)
Plus...it's stuff I love skincare and cosmetics!!:)

Another product I recommend is called Photoshoot. It seriously makes you look like you just had a photoshoot with an amazing MUA working her (or his) magic on your face. Product description goes as follows..
"Get ready for your close-up with this translucent matte emulsion that glides on like silk and instantly gives your skin a warm, vibrant, flawless glow! Using a revolutionary soft-light diffusion technology that deflects light away from the skin, Photo Shoot gives a luminous smoothness to even the roughest surface, softening fine lines and wrinkles, "shrinking" pores and evening out discoloration and harsh skin tones (including rosacea). Perfect for use under all-out "glammy" makeup...or even when you just feel like baring it all."

Yes... it's as amazing as it sounds!!
Check it out here-

http://bellabeauty.societyskincare.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?prodid=118&cid=109

We also sell the famous Enormous Lash. I stopped using mine... not because it was a bad product but because I got lazy... ok... maybe not lazy putting it on but I guess I got impatient. I'm gonna start using it again though...it works. Just look at lollipop26's eyes... holy cow!! AMAZING!!!

Please check it out and if you are interested in any of the products feel free to ask me anything about them.

THANKS, girls!!!!

yoyo lipgloss

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

I haven't seen it in stores yet but there's a new lipgloss out called yoyo lipgloss. So what's different about it? it's on a retractable string that you can put on your hip, purse, bookbag, whatever you use. At first I was like why? but then i realized...wow i wouldn't lose it. I take a lipgloss in my clipboard with me at work. I'm thinking this would be a good idea.

Zoom Whiting and all things shallow...

Monday, December 8, 2008

I have an appt. in January to get my teeth zoom whitened! I'm SO excited! Super blinding white teeth here I come!
Has anyone else gotten this done and if so what did you think of the end result?
My close family and friends know that I'm soooo obsessed with anything cosmetic... if I had a million dollars oh baby watch out because a lot of people would be getting a lot of money from me.
For example.. here I am just given birth...doctor still down town checking things out and we are talking about BOTOX! WHAT??? My OB does botox in his office and I once asked him about it and he told me to talk to him when I wasn't preggers...so after I gave birth my mother in-law says to my doctor "tell her she doesn't need botox" because she knew I had a complex about my doctor saying that I needed it... and looks me right in the eye and winks... "we'll talk! Next time you come in we'll see what we can do." Noooo wrong answer... he was supposed to say "You are kidding, right? You don't need botox... your fine!" Ha ha... now I want botox because he gave me a complex!
And the list goes on of things I want but we won't talk about that today!:)
Back... to the zoom I'd like to hear any ones feelings about it... or botox or anything shallow and completely fabulous like that!:)

Revlon ColorStay...oh how you've impressed me!!

Friday, December 5, 2008

I haven't gotten drug store foundation in years... actually, I honestly haven't worn foundation until this year. I use Bare Minerals daily but I'm getting older. LOL Well, I'm only 25 but I'm noticing I some days need just a little more coverage and more of a finished look. I've been reaalllyy wanting to try the Make Up Forever HD Foundation but it's $40 and I need to be spending money on others this season and not myself!:) I've heard good and bad things about the MUFE so the bad things have kinda made me hesitant about getting it.
I heard that the Revlon ColorStay is a close dupe. I got it last night and I'm seriously impressed. I like it wayyy better than my MAC Studio fix for sure. The Revlon feels so smooth and light on my skin and no nasty scent like the MAC. The coverage is great without looking cakey. It was $10! Can't beat that!!
I got my color in 180 Sand Beige... and it's the perfect color for me... it's just a little darker than NW20...and that's perfect because the NW20 was just a little too light for me so this color is perfection!!

CHI Silk Infusion

Oh my gosh.. this stuff is a-m-a-z-i-n-g!! I didn't think I would like it this much! I have really annoying hair. It's very wavy and curly and I always have to straighten it. When I blow dry my hair it usually looks really kinky underneath and kinda frizzy.
The Chi Silk Infusion makes my hair sooooo soft, smooth and stright. I didn't even have to straighten my hair today!!! That to me is amazing. I ALWAYS have to strighten my hair!
You only need a tiny bit because it's pretty concentrated and just work it through your hair before you blow dry. Repeat when using a flat iron or curling iron because it protects your hair from the heat.
I've heard some people say they didn't care for the smell of it but I actually like the smell.
I got the small bottle and I mean SMALL bottle for $13 at Walgreens.
I'm soooooo impressed with this stuff and so happy I've found it.
I recommend it for all hair types but especially for wavy or curly that gets straightend a lot!
Wish it wasn't so pricy but I think it's well worth it!!!

NYX and Buxom Lips!

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

I looovvveee the Buxom Lips by Bare Essentials. I got the color Dolly and it's a really pretty dark plum color. It doesn't really come out that dark as you'd think from seeing it in the tube. I love the minty feel on my lips. The other color I really like from this collection is called Star. It's beautiful.
I paired my Buxom Lips in Dolly with NYX Twig... another color that's amazing but it's just like MAC's Twig... like exactly.. even the same name. I may even like the NYX better because the MAC's is more of a matte and feels kinda dry on my lips and the NYX feels so smooth.

Magic Lash

So, I returned my Enormous Lash because I'm not that patient to wait 6 to 12 weeks for something to work...I'm more of an instant gratification kinda gal. I'm sure the Enormous Lash works for people who put in the time but I wasn't willing to. I wanted longer lashes and NOW...and I don't have the time for fake lashes either.

I was on youtube a few weeks ago and came across a video about Magic Lash... and I was impressed. I was a little scared to try it because I hate wasting my money on things that sound too good because they usually are.

This was not the case. It works!

Magic Lash is not a serum or a mascara it's small white fibers that cling to your lashes and lengthen and thicken them. You apply the wand with the fibers to just the ends of your lashes or where ever you want length.

First you must apply your mascara and right after apply the Magic Lash...you have to make sure your lashes are still wet with the mascara when you apply the Magic Lash. Repeat mascara, Magic Lash, mascara and so on until you get the desired length. I took an eyelash comb to my lashes after and they look great and are so soft and feathery!!

It was $15 from overallbeauty.com and came packaged sooooo cute with a nice personal Christmas card. Very sweet and thoughtful company. They owner personally wrote me an e-mail and sent a sample of an mineral eyeshadow.

Go to overallbeauty.com and check it out!!:)

I'm SOOO excited!

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

3 cheers.. no 4 cheers for Makeupalley swaps! I've gotten so many cool things in swaps...right now I'm trying to get my hands on MAC's MSF's and so far I've gotten So Ceylon and I have Glissade, Shimpagne and Gold Deposit (hope this one is not too Gold!!) coming in the mail this week! Hopefully both of these work on me!! All I've gone by is the swatches I've seen online and they both look very pretty! *fingers crossed!*

Prestige Pure Shimmer

Monday, November 24, 2008

I went to Walgreens and picked this up today. Lollipop26 reviewed this on her blog http://lollipop26writes.blogspot.com/2008/11/prestige-kind-of-day.html and it looked beautiful on her... though she can pull everything off so I had to try it, too!

I don't really care for this color to be honest with you so I think I'm going to take it back and it the Glam Tan I believe it's called (they were out today so I grabbed the Pure Shimmer).

These things smell like CLAY! Yuck yuck yuck! It's a very strong smell, too! The smell doesn't linger but it's strong at first! The Pure Shimmer is way to light on me and totally washes me out.

Fingers crossed they get the Glam Tan soon because I'm not digging this one!!:(

My Favorite Hollywood Make-up

Hands down would be Megan Fox! I love the way she (or her MUA) does her make-up. It's stunning and flawless every time... and natural. I'm not one who can pull off heavy make-up (especially eyes) without looking like a clown or a drag queen... so Megan's make-up style is one I hope to emulate when I have time.
I love how she plays up her eyes with enormous lashes and plays up her lips with beautiful colors. Over all in my mind her make-up style is perfect!

Flirt! Limited Edition Eyeshadow Palette

Tonight my mother in-law gave my husband and I a gift card to Khols. My in-law's come over every Friday so my husband and I can have date night. We were trying to think of something fun to do without spending a lot of money. My mother in-law told us to go to Khols and split the gift card and see who could get the best deal for our money. I was off to the make-up section!:)

I found this awesome 40 shadow Palette by Flirt! Let me tell you... it's awesome! Ten times better than the Coastal Scents.. at least I think it is. The colors are soooo beautiful and very well pigmented. They go on great and stay on beautifully! I'm really excited about this palette. There is every color in the rainbow plus some.

This was on sale for $22 and the Flirt shadows usually run around $10 each. This palette also came with a huge gift bag but I gave mine to the girl working the register because she really liked it a lot and it was the last bag.... so I told her "Merry Christmas" it was all hers... personally... I didn't think it was all that cute but shhh... don't tell her.

This is WORTH getting!! Seriously! Hurry hurry.. it's Limited Edition!

Here it is at Khols http://www.flirtcosmetics.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY6756&PRODUCT_ID=PROD14363

Best Tanning Lotion

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

I know tanning is so bad for you but I love it!! I love the way it makes my skin look and feel...I love being able to lay down in the warmth ALL ALONE for a few minutes. It's my time.

I've used a lot of different lotion throughout the years...I've tried a lot of sample packs trying to find just the perfect one. I finally found it and let me tell you.. it's a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!
I tend to go for the lotions with a bronzer in it to give me that extra glow. This one gives me an extra extra glow... it's great! It's called Fiesta Sun Platinum Tini - Contouring Blend Bronzer.
I highly recommend it if you are a tanaholic. The smell is ok (one site on the lotion said the fragrance was a "sensual white floral" but I don't know about that) but the smoothness and the color it gives helps me overlook the just ok scent. Also, make sure you wash your hands right after you put it on otherwise you'll have brown in between your fingers. That happened to me and it was kinda embarrassing!

Platinum also has benefits of the anti-aging and skin firming ingredients will leave your skin looking and feeling years younger. Nourish your skin with a variety of vitamins designed to protect against damaging free radicals. Infused Kola, Licorice and Grape Seed extracts will help rejuvenate and pure Extra Virgin Olive oil to keep your skin look and feel silky softPlatinum Ingredients: Unipertan
Squalane
DHA
Vitamins A, C, E
Aloe Vera
Olive Oil
Green Tea
Ginseng
Grape Seed Oil
Golden Seal

Sounds good to me!

CHI Flat Iron

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it. I found mine off of Amazon.com. I just typed CHI flat iron and on the page it says look at new or used so I clicked on it and I found a new one going for $60.. good deal but what made the deal was if you open up a VISA card through Amazon they give you $30 back... so I got my CHI for $30... ok... that's awesome. These Flat Irons are anywhere from $170-70 new... make sure you look at amazon if you are interested in one!!

Ok.. so my thoughts on it.

I have a really long, wavy/curly hair.. pretty much difficult hair! The CHI did an amazing/FAST job at making my hair look really straight and very shiny! I love how you can curl your ends with it, too. My only gripe is it gets SOOOOO hot... I burnt my fingers a few times. The outer shell gets so hot and and because the iron is so thin there is not much to grab and if you aren't careful you will burn your fingers on the side.

I'm pleased with it and would recommend this to any friend and I do think it's worth the price and in my case I didn't have to pay much and I hope you have the same luck as I did if you are looking into getting this!!

Coastal Scents Neutral Palette REVIEW

Sadly I'm not impressed. I was so wishing and hoping this product would be everything the reviews and hype had made it out to be but it's not. The colors are very pretty but nothing spectacular. They are not as pigmented as I heard they were... they really didn't go on my eye that well and I found I had to use A LOT for it to even look like a normal pigmented shadow. I've only used it 3 times and the shadow is everywhere on the palette. I don't think there is a lot of shadow in the pan and I bet it won't last very long if I used it everyday. It doesn't even compare to MAC eye shadows.. no way - no how!
I don't believe I will rebuy this one... you do get a lot of shadows for $22 but like I said I don't think they really go on that well or beautifully.
This is only my opinion... some people love it but I just don't.

My Coastal Scents Neutral Palette came

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Ok, to be honest with you I have not had ANY time to try it. I had my 2nd baby on Oct 31st...so with a newborn and a 17 month old you think I have any time to do anything... uh no. I normally can't stand it when a package comes I barely make it up the driveway before it's opened... my Coastal Scents palette was sitting on my doorstep when I came home from the hospital and I didn't even get a chance to open it until wayyy late in the evening. I had wayyy better things to do that night... hold my new son and hold my other son. Now THAT is pure bliss... better than any joy a new cosmetic can bring...a million billion times better!!:)
I will give it a good try in a few days when I have some time and I'll let you know what I really think about it. I did try it once but I really didn't have time to spend on my eyes so it didn't really look amazing. So far... I think the colors are really pretty... but I think my expectations were way high about it from what everyone has said... I'm a tiny bit disappointed but I really only tried it once so I'm not going to pass any judgements about it. Can't wait to give it a good try and see if it's as pigmented as everyone says and see how long it lasts on my eyes throughout the day!!

So Ceylon vs. Chroma Face Glow in Sunstone

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

So, I've had a chance to try out the MAC MSF So Ceylon and I really like it however I still think the Chroma Face Glow is better. Crazy, huh? The So Ceylon is a very pretty and very well pigmented and goes on amazing. I find the Chroma Face Glow easier to work with to tell you the truth... not that the So Ceylon is hard to work with but I think that because of the pigmentation it could have the potential of going on too dark. One or two swipes of the Chroma and you are good to go.
The Chroma face glow has a little more shimmer highlight and pink tone where the So Ceylon had more of a copper look.
I think the NYC is more beautiful.. it has dark cranberry/brownish/goldish veins it.
The MAC So Ceylon is $25 and the NYC is $4.99.
Putting the price a side which is veerrryy appealing.. I think I'd still grab for the NYC first.

Both products are great though...Well worth the money for either!

Here is the So Ceylon and NYC Chroma Face Glow- very similar shaped containers
Photobucket

As you can see the colors are very close but the NYC has more vaining. Beautiful.
Photobucket

NYC Chroma Face Glow in Sunstone on the left and MAC So Ceylon on the right. Very close but like I said the NYC has a little more pinky shimmer and the So Ceylon has a more copper look.

So Ceylon- I'm so excited to try you!

I just got my Mac So Ceylon in the mail today... I'm soooo excited to try it out! God Bless makeupalley swaps!:) I got rid of a parfume I used like once and hopefully I've gained a new love in the Mac MSF So Ceylon. I've heard ammmmaazzzing things about it. It was darker than I was thinking it was going to be though. It's very coppery. So, I'm hoping it doesn't go on that dark otherwise it's not gonna look so good... but on the flipside... I got it in a swap so I didn't pay anything for it but $2.00 to ship off my parfume!:)

I need to go take a shower and get ready... and once I try it... I'll let you know!!
So excited!!!

Top 3 Mascaras

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

I think that I'm pretty finicky when it comes to mascaras. I can't stand a wet feeling lash that makes it hard to curl with the eye lash curler. I hate eyelashes that stick together or flake. So, after many a dollars down the drain I think I've found 3 that really work well for me. I will also name the 3 I can't stand...there are wayyyy more than 3 I hate but I'll try and be nice and just name 3. :)

Top 3 Mascaras and why-

1. Diorshow by Christian Dior- This is an award-winning mascara for a reason. It is PERFECT. It defines, lengthens, separates, volumizes and curls. Perfectly. I love the light rose scent. There is nothing better than sweet smelling mascara. The wand brush is very large so it's easy to get all the lashes. It doesn't go on wet or too thick... it's a very smooth mascara. It's very easy to wash off at the end of the night. You don't need 5 cotton pads to get it off. It is pricey so that's the downside and it doesn't last as long as my other mascaras...it tends to start getting hard to get out but that's probably when I should be changing my mascara anyways... by make-up rules that is.
Two thumbs up from me!! Retails for $24
Photobucket

2. Clinique High Impact- If you are reluctant about trying an expensive mascara, buy this. The brush makes application easy. Every lash is coated well. No smudges or flaking. Lashes soft to the touch. You only really need one coat but I like to add a few coats... just can't help myself. It also is very easy to take off at night and that's important. Retails for $14.
Photobucket

3. Maybelline Define a Lash- and it does JUST that... defines the lashes amazing! The way the brush is created really does do the trick to separate and lengthen. Worked great to volumise my my lashes and separate them and make them look beautiful. It makes my lashes look thinner compared to the Dior but it really does define them really well and makes them so soft.
Also, like the other washes off really well. Retails for $7.99 (I believe)
Photobucket

Top 3 Mascaras I can't stand and why

1. Cargo TexasLash- I HATTTTEEE THIS STUFF. Texas size lashes.. yeah right! It smells soooo bad. Mascara should not smell like that. It's horrible! The consistency was very thin compared to other volumizing mascaras I have tried...So it smudged and clumped up like crazy while applying. When it dries you can literally pinch your lashes between your fingernails and peel the mascara off. Not impressed in the least. It's also a very wet mascara making it very hard to curl with an eyelash curler. WASTE OF MONEY!! Retails for $20 GRRRRRRR like I said WASTE OF MONEY!!!

2.Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express- I believed the hype and I shouldn't have. This product stinks... or at least that's what I think. Make-up is subjective... to each is their own. This mascara stays watery for some time after application, and the whole watery formula and wand shape NEEDS a precise application to achieve a nice look, and the worst of all... FLAKES LIKE CRAZY!!! Result: Heinous. Hideous. I didn't even pay attention to the smell, all I noticed was the creepy daddy long legs look of which my eyelashes took shape after the first swipe. Okay. That was only one swipe, let's try this again. Swipe two, three, four... my eyelashes weren't getting any thicker, only more spidery and crusty looking. GROSS. 10 x's long my behind!! Retails for $7.99 ( think)

3. Clinique Lash Power Mascara- Vows to look pretty for 24 hours without a smudge or smear. Lasts through rain, sweat, humidity, tears.... uhhhhhhh YEA RIGHT... this stuff does non of the above but make my lashes stick straight out and makes it impossible to curl...doesn't last for 24 hours...I wouldn't even want this stuff on my lashes for 5 mins let alone 24 hours. YUCK!
Retails for $14

4. Ok... had to add this one...LashBlast SUCKED!! Booooo...so sad!! What a waste. The wand is nasty and it goes on my lashes horribly!!!

What mascara do you love or hate...and if you love the ones that I hate that's ok, too!!
Let me know what you think!

My new cheek combo obsession

Monday, October 27, 2008

I'm obsessed with this cheek combo... I use Benefit Hoola to contour my cheek bone, MAC Melba on the apples of my cheeks and my new favorite HG N.Y.C Chroma Face Glow in Sunstone all along my cheek.

The N.Y.C Chroma Face Glow is a Limited Edition product and I think that's pretty stupid on N.Y.C's part. They could make a TON of money on this stuff if they brought it to their full line. Write them at tell them! I've written them twice at their website. :)
http://www.newyorkcolor.com/customerserv/contact.cfm

Many people compare it to MAC's MSF's but muuccch cheaper... $5 instead of $25.
They say the Sunstone is comparable to So Ceylon and Moonstone is comparable to Petticoat.

Read the reviews here-
http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=111497/Chroma_Face_Glow/New_York_Color/Highlighters

So, anyway...here is my combo! :)

CHI Flat Iron

I watched a video on YT yesterday about how to get sleek runway hair done by julieg713 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SgWPfANKCU
So, she totally sold me on the CHI flat iron... I've been reading reviews about it though and some people love it and some people hate it. I've heard it can be pretty harsh on the hair but what hair strightner isn't?? I've also heard they die pretty easy so that kinda sucks.
I found one on Amazon.com for $60 and if you open up an Amazon Visa card then you get $30 back from them...making my grand total $30... good deal... good deal.
My only fear is that it's not an authentic CHI because I'm not buying it directly from CHI. This is what lack of self control gets me... panic and fear. Ha ha

Has anyone else used this and what do you think about it? Is it worth it and is all the hype about it true?

What other hair strightners do you love??

Everyday Minerals update

Saturday, October 25, 2008

The first review I did on here was BM vs EDM... so after giving it sometime I now know that I'm for sure 100% a Bare Minerals gal. I ordered the free sample pack and thought it was pretty good.. I wasn't crazy about how it went on or how it felt.. I felt a little chalky to me but I thought I'd give it a good try because of the price. I ordered the Sunkissed Fair in the full size and I've used it once. What a waste! It's harder to work with than the BM because the dish is so shallow and the powder flies everywhere. I'm still in love with their flat top brush... that to me was a great buy. I'm also pleased with their Summer Stroll blush even though I haven't touched it in a few days because I'm enamored with my N.Y.C Chroma Face Glow...*crosses her fingers they don't make it LE forever and bring it to their full line*

So, do I think EDM's was a waste of money... kinda, yes. I don't think I'll buy it again or even use up what I have. It might work for some people but I'm an Bare Minerals kinda gal!:)

The Budget Babe

Here are some ideas or tips I've learned along the way to still look like a million bucks without breaking the bank...if there is even a bank to break!

Tip #1-
Go to your local beauty school for a hair trim. I've been trying to grow my hair out for ages and when I need a trim I only want a half an inch off (if that)... so why pay someone $45 to take a half an inch off when you can go to the beauty school and have someone do the SAME thing for $6-8!! That's a no brianer!

Tip #2-
Either color your hair yourself or go to the beauty school. I've been coloring my hair myself for years but as my hair has gotten longer and being as pregnant as I am it has become kinda hard and I found myself missing parts of my hair or getting the dye everywhere. I went to the local beauty school last month and had one of the girls do it for me and it cost me $20 but if I would have went to a real salon it would have been $50-60. I think it came out great!

Tip #3-
I really wanted to get a brow highlighter but all the ones I saw at Sephora were $20 and up. At the time it was either $20 for a brow highlighter or $20 for diapers for my son...hmmmm...duh... of course I'm gonna spend that on things we NEED and just not on what I WANT so I thought in the meantime I'd just get a really light stick consealer (I got a Rimmel for $4) and it does the trick for now.

Tip #4-
Do your own french mani/pedi... it's not as relaxing or even nice looking but hey... still looks good and polished!

Tip #5-
This is not make-up related but it's an easy way to make money... take the clothes you aren't wearing to your local resale shop... wait for them to sell and get some mad money. I just picked up a check for $50! Whoo hoo!

Anastasia of beverly hills clear brow gel

Friday, October 24, 2008

I have a slight obsession with eyebrows. Mine aren't perfect or anywhere how I'd like them to look but I find myself plucking them everynight before I got to bed if I feel any new hairs sprout up. When I do my eyebrows during the day I'd always spray a little hairspray on the eyebrow brush to keep them in place because I hate looking in the mirror and seeing unrulely brows. The problem with hairspray is they become stiff and crusty...and that's not a good look!

I found the Anastasia Clear Brow gel and it does the trick. It keep them in place very well. It drys kinda hard like hairspray but without the stiff/crusty feel. It keeps them in place beautifuly.

I'm pleased... so buh-bye stiff brows and hello to nice shaped brows that stay in place just how you want them!!!

Great Eyelash Tip

I remember reading in Teen magazine when I was in middle school a trick to having long curly eyelashes. I swear by it and think you should try it if you haven't already.

All you need is a hair dryer and an eyelash curler...

Eyelash curlers work better when they are slightly hot. You can heat them up by gently using a hair dryer. Place the eyelash curler under the blow dryer for approximately five seconds under low heat. After heating, open the eyelash curler and position near the root of your lashes. Hold the eyelash curler at your eyelashes for ten to (I always count to 20) thirty seconds. Remember the longer the hold time the more curve you will get. As you move up your lashes clamp and unclamp the curlers.

So, if you've never tried a heated eyelash curler you are missing out!! You will be amazed with the results I promise you! Go give it a try!:)

The Busy Mom or Lazy Girls 2 minute eye

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

I don't have a lot of time these days with a 16 month old running around and 9 days left until my due date. I just can't spend a ton of time doing my make-up. I've talked about the Covergirl Shimmering Sands Trio before and I'm gonna again. I just love this stuff. Seriously with this shadow I can get semi decent eyes in 2 mins. I just use the lightest pinky/pearl color all over my lid and the darkest on my crease...and vola...
Photobucket
It's not dramatic or anything but it does the trick. You can of course make it dramatic if you want to spend more time on it.. but I only had 2 mins and for 2 mins I think it looks ok... and I of course used the UDPP as a base...

Photobucket
Now lets take a look at the good stuff inside the make-up bag...it's only lipsticks... I guess that's my thing. LOL

Tarte Picture Perfect Eyelash Curler

This has to be the greatest eyelash curler ever created! I got this one about a year ago because my old one from the drugstore was pulling my lashes out and I was always pinching my eyelid.. ouch! I was at Sephora's and I saw this one. I loved the way it felt, the handles were nice and large and it felt really good to squeeze. I've been using it everyday ever since and I have to say I'm kinda in love with it. It gives a great curl and not once has it pinched my eyelid. I give this an A++ in function and design.
I've also tried the much talked about Shu Uemura eyelash curler and which it gives a nice curl but I had the same problem with the drugstore curlers.. it pulls lashes out and pinches! Not cool! Also... it was $26...*GASP*...I paid THAT for an eyelash curler?!?! What is wrong with me? Now it just sits in my make-up bag!:(

Aspirin Mask.. have you tried it?

I had never heard of an Aspirin mask until I started going to makeupalley and around 1,480 have reviewed it so far and 83% of all people would use it again so I had to try it. It's super annoying to make the mixture and takes a long time and work to crush up the little pills. People who do it swear it makes your face so smooth and helps ache. I really don't think it did anything special for my skin and it was a pain in the butt to make. Here's how though-
1) Take around 2-4 tablets of aspirin.
2) Sprinkle and I mean SPRINKLE drops of water on the aspirin, if you use too much water, it will become too mushy and pretty much useless. You can also add a little honey to the mixture if you'd like (I didn't)
3) If you added the right amount of water, it should start to disenegrate on it's own If it does not dissolve, use your fingers to break it apart and mix it with the water. (MINE DIDN'T DISENEGRATE!! GRRRR)
***Note, the texture of this should be VERY grainy
4)Now, start applying the mixture on your face. Make sure you avoid the eye area like I did. Also, try and avoid getting the aspirin in your nostrils, you do not want to breath this in.
5)Apply and spread the entire mixture on your face. Leave it on like a mask for 10 MINUTES. After the 10 minutes are up, wash off your face. As you are washing it off, take advantage of the grainy texture of the aspirin and exfoliate your skin. This will get the dead skin cells off your face, and polish your skin to leave it glowing.

Ok, so... those are the instructions I found online.... my tablets were like hard rocks and it took forever to break up until small peices... it didn't leave my skin beautiful or glowing. I'd much rather use my MAC Microfine Refinisher... works much better! I don't have the time to making a homemade mixture like this... so 2 thumbs down from me but 83% of people who reviewed it loved it... so I'm sure it's good and works...just not for me.

Givenchy Pop Gloss in Exciting Coral... I love you!

Saturday, October 18, 2008

This has to be one of my all time favorite lip glosses. It goes on so smooth and beautiful. I adore the texture of this. It doesn't last a super long time but I don't mind because I get a weird pleasure every time I put it on... it's so nice! The color is simply beautiful. It's a little pricey...ok... a lot pricey for lipgloss $24 but it's worth it. I got mine around Christmas 07 and I won't have to replace it for a few more months. I don't use it everyday all day though because of the price.

I totally love the mystic tan...for one because I'm pregnant and I can't do a regular tan (which I LOVE even though I know it's horrible for my skin)... and it really does give a nice glow. I went to a new salon where they have the new high tec Mystic and I nearly choked from trying to hold my breath because the spray was soooo strong and I didn't think that was very heathly for my unborn baby. I'm pleased with the color however I wore these little booties (I've never tried them before) because I just got my toes done and I didn't want an orange french mani!
Well.. here is how my feet turned out.. not so pretty! LOL But hey...at least I know I got some color!! Ha ha

Nice tan lines...NOT!!

My CG Trio

Friday, October 17, 2008

This is the same ole eye I've been doing since 2001... of course I do switch it up but on lazy days without a doubt this never fails and it's so easy and fast! It's my HG covergirl Shimmering SAnds Trio! I use the lightest color all over my eye and the darkest in the trio at my crease...and that's it!

This last pic is a pretty natural make-up. I used the CG Trio, Bare Minerals in Medium Beige, MAC lipglass lipgel in slicked pink, MAC blush in Gingerly, DIORSHOW mascara, dark brown eyeliner (not sure the brand)...and that's it!

Makeupalley.com

I'm offically addicted! I first started going there to read reviews because I hate buying something than getting home and kicking myself... reading the reviews have saved me from buying a lot of things that I probably didn't need in the first place... so reading the reviews are great but what really has got me addicted is the swapping! Whoever thought of this was pure genius! At first I didn't really get and thought using other peoples make-up was kinda gross...than I thought about it... when I got to Sephoras I go crazy and try on everything... and probably 1,000 people have tried on that same blush... so swapping with one person who has something I want but probably shouldn't spend money on makes me VERRYYY happy..all I have to do is clean it well before using and I'm good to go.
So, if you have tons of make-up just sitting around and have a make-up addiction like I do...and get a thrill out of getting new make-up... try swapping!!
Look me up at makeupalley.com SN- sardun
Be prepared to become addicted!

Urban Decay Primer Potion

This stuff is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I don't always believe the hype on things and tend to get disappointed when a product everyone raves about turns out to be bad... but what they say is true... this stuff is great and really works!! I'm sold and I don't think I'll ever wear eye shadow with out it. It goes on really smooth and it's super light... not sticky at all! My eye shadow lasts ALL day long... no touch ups!! I'm in love with this product!!!:)

You don't need a lot of this... just dab a little on your eyes with the wand and with your finger pat it all over your eye lid and browbone. It helps your eyeshadow go on really well and makes it last ALL DAY... seriously!:) It's $16 and I think it's well worth it!

Cheaper Make-up that works amazing!

I'm a big believer in you get what you pay for. If you want a good product you most likely going to have to spend a bit of money. However... there are some exceptions I've found and these few cheaper products are ones I use almost daily!

Covergirl makes the most amazing eyeshadow trio that I've been using since 2001. The colors are very pretty and they go on very smooth. I use Eye enhancers in shimmering sands.
It comes with a dark brown, a lighter taupe (I barely use that one though) and an amazing pinkish/pearl color that I use all over my lid and along my browline for a highlight. It's like $4 from the drugstore... can't beat that!

Bonnie Bell makes an amazing lipgloss called LipLITES in the color/flavor of cappuccino. It's a very pretty nude color. It goes on so smooth and not one bit sticky. By the texture you'd think it would be a $20 lipgloss but it's like $2 or something crazy like that. It looks amazing with a nude lipliner. I've used this since 2006. Seriously... go buy it. You won't regret it!

Jelly Gloss (color 100 Tutti Frutti) by Rimmel London is a great pink gloss. It's very light feeling and not sticky at all. It comes in a small tube but seems to last a lonnnng time!

I adore Garnier products! Everything they make is great. I love their Sleek and Shine products for the hair, the leave in conditioner they make works like magic and even their Skin Renew moisture lotion goes on really nice and is gentle on the skin. Plus...ALL their products smell great!

See...sometimes you don't have to pay a ton of money to get great products!
