Photoshoot One

Thursday, July 14, 2011

As many of you are aware, I started my make up course last week. After eight days its incredible the amount I have learned, and I really love it. Yesterday, I completed my first photoshoot. Being seriously nervous person that I am, I didn't sleep the night before and kept myself awake drawing face charts in my mind. Come the morning, I was no better off in deciding what I wanted so I just went with the flow.

My beautiful friend, Jane, offered to be my model. And model she did. We had two looks to do: natural make up and bridal for our portfolio. While I was nervous at the start, the fact that I was doing make up on a friend and that the tutor created a strict but somehow relaxed atmosphere, I had a great time trying out different techniques to achieve the looks I ended up with. I used the MAC Face and Body C1 as foundation, a Cinema Secrets concealer, and a MAC quad for the eyes. The photos below aren't the photographers ones that will be put in my portfolio, but they give a good picture of what the make up looked like.

The next shoot is male make up and trends! Let me know if you want to see those photos!

Hope you like!

A Change is Gonna Come

Sunday, July 3, 2011

I'm a freak. I'll admit it. Taking photos of paper. If you read this post a few months ago you'll know that I'm starting my make up course tomorrow. After two months of college-free life and pretty much nothing to do, not only am I looking forward to being occupied but to learn about something I've been lusting over for years. I can't say I'm not a bit nervous, because obviously I am. But I'm also so excited to be finally doing it.

Like the obsessive compulsive I am (I jest), when I received my student handbook a few days ago I spent my whole morning reading and re-reading all the information it held. There is only one little problem with me embarking on this little adventure means that I probably won't have as much time to blog. I was thinking that every week I could do a tutorial/look that I had learned on Youtube, meaning I would be doing 'homework' and practising while still updating the auld blog. Just a thought. Writing is my favourite thing, so hopefully will have more time to do that!

Could I poke someone in the eye with a brush? Yup. Could I be the worst in the class? Yup. Could this all be a disaster? Yup. But I seriously hope not!

Wish me luck!x

Playin' with ma face

Thursday, May 12, 2011

With today being the first of my Summer holidays from University came boredom. After watching a disgusting amount of One Tree Hill reruns, I decided to play with my face.

I went to my local Inglot last night where they were having an event with 20% off, so got myself this little palette; which was down from twenty-five to fifteen euro. Sweet deal. Anyway, as I hadn't done a 'face of the day' for a while, thought I'd give it ago!

Face:
Chanel Pro Lumiere in Clair 20
MAC Harmony blush (as contour and blush)

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Inglot Eyeshadow Quad (light pink, purple, dark brown)
Sephora Liquid Liner
MAC Smoulder Eyeliner
Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara

Lips:
MAC Hue Lipstick

I'm well aware of the fact I look cross-eyed here, apologiiiies!

Short Update On Life..and Upcoming Reviews ♥

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

This post is just because I felt like sharing and because I felt bad for not updating with the reviews I have piling up. School is ending for me in two weeks and everything is hectic T^T and my procrastination is getting worst! I'm re-watching Inuyasha episodes for gods sake =_=...and on a night where I have a 6 page research paper that I haven't started on due the very next day! *sighhh*

Anyways, today I feel like I'm burning. If anyone happens to be my friend on facebook you'll find my numerous "It's hot!!! My room feels like a Sauna!!! I'm melting!!" posts =D! I can't believe it's 90 degrees in the Beach Area O_O!! What's worst is my dorm upstairs is hotter then outside =_= seriously?? WT!!!

So what I wanted to share was a song I found annoying when it first came out because I wasn't use to 4 minute's new style, but after hearing it a billion times, I am now addicted to it ^3^"~~:

Aside from that I just want to show what to expect for future reviews~~I bought like 3-4 hauls already from www.prettyandcute.com but I haven't really reviewed everything! I also got a few things from Sephora and www.eyecandylens.com

So what to expect:

Dollywink Volume Mascara~I'll try this with my long one together!

Lioele Blooming Pop Lip Tint: I have all 3 colors, Pink, Red, and Orange~~

K Palette 1 Day Volume Mascara

I have natural brown~

Geo Xtra Candy Pink

You guys probably already seen all of these but since I got it a while ago, I plan to finish swatching it !!

shimmer brown♥

NEW COLORS FOR SHATTER!!! I got the white one =D..but I want the Navy and Turquoise too!

My favorite foundation so far♥

I also bought a bunch of extensions and wigs...but I haven't figured how to use them yet...or my hair color is kind of not matching =3="...but for now that's what I have coming up~~As you can see, I shop A LOT O_O..I bought a lot of these within a short period of time T^T~~Anyways, I'll try my best to post up reviews as soon as possible but I most likely won't get to a bunch of them until school is over! Two more weeks~~Just two more weeks *_* ♥♥♥

Complete and Utter Overload

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Make-Up has been a passion of mine for years. Its only in the last few months that I've realised just how much of it I own, and with that, just how much I spend. This realisation hit me when I looked up the amount of points I have on my Brown Thomas loyalty card. You get one point per euro spent..

Suffice to say, I had shocking number of points.

My Mum has always given out to me about buying the "exact" same eyeshadow over and over again, and I have ignored this because to me their different. But when I think about it, they are almost identical. All neutrals, all beautiful. I decided to take a look at my makeup drawer and only then did I realise how obsessive my little hobby is.

A total of 13 foundations, 15 eyeshadow palettes, countless single eyeshadows, 10 mascaras, 10 blushes, over 30 lipsticks and much, much more.

And this got me thinking: why do I buy so much of the same kinds of make up?

Without running the risk of sounding like Isla Fisher in Confessions of a Shopoholic : Its because it makes me happy. The thrill you get when you buy a highend foundation that you've wanted for months or the bargain of a highstreet mascara is exhilirating. For that whole day, and maybe a few after that it excited you knowing that you can try different looks or shades. That you'll have of for ages and it will make you look better and that its "different" (debatable) from everything else you have. And then when that feeling goes, you need to buy something else to fill that little bubble.

However, seeing as most of my makeup is the same, I've decided a spending ban is necessary. For the next two/three months, I will try my very best not to buy ANY makeup, and from then on will only buy products that are completely different to those I already have. Partly because I have no money at the moment, and partly because I have realised that I can't keep buying products at the rate I do.

Is hoarding makeup (or anything else) a problem for you? If so, join me in a spending ban. It can't be that hard...

..Right?

The Fear

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Over the last few months loads of my friends have been planning their Summer holidays to amazing places like America, Spain and Canada. Most are going for a few months to work and others just a few weeks. I'm staying here. And for the first time ever, I'm really happy to be doing so.

If you've read the "About Me" section on this blog, you'll know that all I have ever really wanted to do was become a Make-Up Artist. While I don't mind my university course of English and Drama, I know I'll never use it once its finished. A mixture between Make-Up artistry and journalism has always been my goal and it seems now I'll finally get it. This Summer, instead of going away to the sun and the sea I'm going to be studying in LA MakeUp Academy for two months to become a make up artist!

Finally.

After spending the day there watching the goings-on and meeting the lovely Anouska who talked to me about the course, my mind was made up. I start at the beginning of July and couldn't be happier, especially when I saw the course rundown. But recently "the fear" of failure has taken over me. I've been waiting to do this course for about three years but the idea that I'd be awful at it has slowly been creeping into my mind.

While I don't find it difficult to slap makeup on my face, I may be awful at doing it "professionally" for others! After putting so much into saving for it and waiting to be able to actually do it, I guess I'm just afraid it isn't my "calling" afterall. While I know my mini panic-attacks are completely irrational, the thought of failure won't seem to go away. So my little question to you, is how does one fight "the fear"?

What are your plans for the Summer? Anyone doing anything potentially life-changing?

I Hauled..Again

Sunday, November 21, 2010

I have a problem, and I'll readily admit it. I have set myself a challenge, no shopping unless for Christmas presents, until after the party season. Wish me luck because I will need it.

Make Up Forever Rock For Ever Liners

If you follow me on twitter (joolie18) you will already know about my lust for these. Initially on my Christmas list I couldn't help buying them on my recent shopping splurge. I've always wanted one as their waterproof, and now I have five. Delirah!

Left: No Flash. Right: With flash

Laura Mercier Rose l/s and Pink Diamond l/g

The Laura Mercier obsession has intensified, told you I'd go back. I managed to be good and only buy two products. Hell, they are expensive though. The lipstick and lipgloss were each 27euro/£22. So worth it though, their stunning colours. The camera doesn't do them justice, they are much brighter and the quality is amazing!

Elf Cool Coral and Seduction l/s

I talked about these in my latest YT video, check it out HERE!

Cream Blushes- NYX and MAC Lilicent

Cream Blushes- NYX and MAC Lilicent

MAC LILICENT

In December I picked up the MAC Lilicent cream blush and I fell in love with it. I've never been a huge fan of cream blushes. I would apply them with my fingers and it never looked right. My face always felt sticky and greasy. MAC Lilicent change my heart and mind... at least for MAC cream blushes. MAC Lilicent is a beautiful pink peach color.... it gives a very fresh dewy glow to the skin... which I totally adore! It actually is quite pigmented so using a lighter hand might be a good idea. The staying powder of this is really great... it's about the same you would get with a MAC powder blush. I LOVE this color and think it's an amazing hue for any skintone. I am so excited to get my hands on other MAC cream blushes.... next is Ladyblush, me thinks. I use my MAC 188 with it and this brush has made all the difference in my love for this. I love the look this blush creates when used with this brush. I got this for $18.50 from MAC.

NYX Rose Petal, Natural, Boho Chic (click for a better look at the pretty colors)
Since I fell in love with Lilicent... I realised I totally love the look that cream blush gives... so I decided I've give the NYX cream blushes a try seeing as the colors they offer are SO pretty and they are only $7 each.
I have to admit I am kind of disappointed. They are extreamly soft and creamy in texture which in theory sounds nice but it's not. Because they are so soft you have the potential of creating a pretty significant finger dent in the blush if you aren't careful....they kind of mush and smush at the touch.
However, the colors I picked are really pretty. They aren't as pigmented as MAC Lilcent but the pay off is still very nice. They feel kind of sticky on my skin (unlike the MAC) but for $7 I think they are pretty good quality... minus how soft they are. NYX Natural and MAC Lilcent are very close dupes! I will post pictures below.

MAC Lilicent and NYX Natural

As you can see they aren't a perfect match but they are pretty close. NYX Natural is a little brighter pink but as you can see without a flash they look the same!!

My BOHO Chic came with tiny little air pockets in it. As you can see there are little bumps all around the edges... I don't know why it came like that but that's what you get for $7, I guess. I'm not bashing it... it's a lovely color and a GREAT price but you can't expect perfection.

MAC Cream Cup & MAC Dazzleglass Rags to Riches

Thursday, January 7, 2010

I was watching a video by filthygorgeousmakeup (who is beyond stunning by the way) and became  obsessed with the color she was wearing on her lips. ( Link to the video with the glosses ) I of course ran out and got both of the products she used in that video which were the MAC Cream Cup lipstick and MAC Dazzleglass in Rags to Riches. I do have to say they looked way better on her but over all I am pretty pleased with them. I think they look great worn alone and also great a beautiful combo when worn together.

MAC Cream Cup lipstick

I really am loving the Cream Cup lipstick. It's such a beautiful, light, feminine pink. It's a very light "barbie" pink color with blue undertones. It's more cool toned and I usually like warm tones but it's so pretty that I'm willing over look that minor detail.  It's very wearable and so creamy in texture. I've heard people compare this to MAC Angel but with a tiny bit of shimmer. Perfect.

MAC Dazzleglass in Rags to Riches

This was my first time trying a Dazzleglass... I always stayed away from them because everyone said that they are so sticky...which they are but they aren't as sticky as I predicted. I've felt worse. I honestly really like this gloss. Worn alone it's quite sheer with a hint of pinkish lilac and a whole lot of silver, gold and purple tiny sparkles. I personally don't think it's too over board in the sparkle dept but it may not be everyones cup of tea. The texture is nice, smooth but yes sticky. I think this color looks amazing paired with a lipstick and specifically the MAC Cream Cup lipstick.

Without flash

So, over all I am so pleased with this combo however I don't think this is really a winter combo... I think it will look better in the summer and preferably with tan. I think I can pull this color combo off but barely.... it cames close to washing me out and making me look like an old lady who wore the baby pink lipstick but I haven't crossed that line yet and I think I can pull it off.... at least I think I can. Doesn't matter... I like it.... and that's all that matters. If the shoe fits wear it....
